Advantages: Bright colours, good learning tool
This was bought as a gift for my newborn son at the start of this year. Here's the lowdown....
Design - large main body/head with eight legs coming off of it. The face has large clear eyes and a smile which my son loves. They come in different colours but our main head section is yellow. Each leg is then covered in its owns fabric. The legs ar wall differently covered. Different, colour, texture, pattern. Each foot then has its assigned colour and the colour dictates a note. Insides and tops of the legs have an attractive black and white pattern-good for babies to see. At the point where the legs join the base there are small knots and pieces of fabric for baby to grab onto. Again, all different colours and feels. In the top of the head is a fabric handle. It's makes a rustling noise which baby loves.
Usage - it would be fair to say I have played with this more than my son has. Whilst he loves it dearly he doesn't know how to get the sound out. You need to grasp each floor fairly tightly for it to make a noise and at 7 months old he just can't do it. If he could, he would still not be able to play the songs written on the tag. The tag Mary had a little lamb and twinkle twinkle. I mastered both pretty quickly and was very proud of myself. Imagine my excitement when I read on the tag that more song guides could be downloaded from the Lamaze website. If I could manage to find them online I'd be very pleased but I can't. I also had to remove the tag before letting my son play on his own with it so I now have no music to play and just squeeze random note.
Value - as this was a gift we didn't fork out the cash. I'm likely to buy this for future babies that come into my life. Whilst my son cannot take full advantage of its features right now I have no doubt that he has many months or even years of fun to come with this toy. Right now he is able to enjoy the bright colours and the way it moves when he picks it up. As time passes he will be able to make his own sweet music and continue to amuse himself. Who knows, one day we might even get to counting the legs!
Summary: A great product with years of fun ahead.
