A great panel to keep your little one entertained

I was lucky enough to be given two cot panels by a friend and one was this Lamaze Phase 1 panel. You can see from the picture that it has bold colourful pictures on it. This is good for babies, who cannot see clearly until their eyes have developed fully. The bright colours are easy for them to see and are entertaining for them. Even better, for newborn babies the reverse of the panel, which is not shown in the picture is all black and white. I found that my newborn was mesmorised by the black and white pictures. When I went to have a bath, he would only be quiet if I put the black and white panel next to him so that he could focus on the pictures. He would pick one and stare at it for ages. Now that he is three months old, I am just starting to use the colourful side, which he is finding more interesting. I think he was starting to get a little bored with the black and white pictures. Probably because I had used it pretty much every day since he was born. His favourite part of the colourful side seems to be the mirror. Although he doesn't seem to be focusing on his own reflection in the mirror (and I think the mirror part is too small for him to realistically do this to be honest), the light reflections are clearly entertaining for him.

I did not attach mine to the inside of the cot, as I worried that my son would pull it on top of himself. Instead I propped it between the cot side and the wall - it did the job!

      Babies like looking at it.

A cot panel which has six squares, on one side is black & white and the other side is in colour.

The black and white one is designed with very young babies in mind, dark & light are the sights they can distinguish easily. The patterns are swirly and obviously interesting to watch. I personally don't like them but the babies watched them for hours.

The other side is brightly coloured with a mirror, shaped patterns, a man & woman's face and a couple of other things, I have two of these and one of them has space to put a photograph of whoever. One also had a squeaky thing in one of the squares.

I found the babies didn't bother as much with this side, they looked at it, but didn't spend as much time as with the black & white, other things to do I suppose. They did like looking at the womans face.

The only problem was the ties kept coming undone, so I had to keep refastening it. Otherwise a good toy.

I think you can get these in Mother care, boots or online, I don't know the price of these, I had mine given, and one was from a charity shop.
