Lamaze Phase 2 Wrist Rattles
Advantages: Bold contrasting patterns, Fun designs, hours of entertainment
As a mum of 3 children I have bought 100's of toys and about 3 years ago I purchased my first set of Lamaze hand finders. These lovely rattles have been on the market for several years now and are still as popular as ever, It is easy though to see why.
As parents we want to stimulate our children from a young age and these provide stimulation from a very young age. They are recommended for 3 months onwards but I have found from personal experience that some toys are suitable for slightly younger than that. The bands of these are made from a black and white striped material. Bold contrasting patterns are the recommended visual stimulant for young babies and research shows that babies can see this from as young as 6 weeks old. The band fastens with a velcro fastening and placed onto the bands are various different insects, bugs, animals which have a textured fabric and rattle when moved.
Mine are actually the ladybird and dragonfly, the dragonfly has shiny wings that crinkle as well as the rattle inside and both of my youngest children have adored this particular one. The ladybird with her contrasting red and black however was played with just as much but seemed to be a more convenient shape for my daughter to try and chew on.
When I first purchased these I paid £6.99 for them and the price has stayed pretty much on a par ever since with Amazon still selling them at £5.99 3 years later.
My daughter was about 6 weeks when I tried these on her and every time she moved her arms and made the rattling noise she stopped moving, listening to the noise instead, of course the noise had stopped and so her arms and legs would go again just for her to stop again to listen. This was the ongoing cycle for about 3 weeks until she discovered she could raise her hands and there they were, then the battle of trying to fit the ladybird into her mouth began. To be honest while these were a great source of entertainment for my children,I got just as much entertainment out of them from watching my children interact with them. The rattles lasted until my children were about 15lb in weight. Obviously children's shape and size differ greatly and because my daughter was long and lean in her case the rattles fitted to about 7 months, however my son was a chunky baby and he only got to wear them until about 5 months. They did continue to play with them off their wrists though and my 2 year old daughter now puts them on her dolls when she is playing babies.
If I were to have another baby I would definitely be purchasing these again and for the amount of use your child gets out of them they are excellent value for money toys.
Summary: A excellent stimulating rattle for a very reasonable price
