For Laurens first Christmas, she received her very first doll which we still have locked away in the loft as a keepsake. When I say doll, it was a stuffed and soft type but she loved it so much and its only this last year or so she decided she was to big for this now.
***Price and availability***
As this was a gift, I cannot comment on the price but a quick look online tells me that this now retails for around £10 (there does seem to be a couple of pound either way so I would recommend shopping around if you are looking to purchase). It is widely available from supermarkets, baby specialist, toy shops and Amazon
The doll is suitable from birth and we started using this when Lauren was approaching one year old.
Sophie has a white clip from the top of head which means she easily attached to our car seat, side of the cot and we even used it on her play mat, I really liked that this was so portable, especially when we were out and about. The main doll measures around 8inches in height, she is quite lightweight meaning it was easy for Lauren to hold and play with.
The doll is dressed in a nice pink and yellow patterned dress (which is not removable) and topped with a cute little pink tiara (again this was sewn on and not removable either). The underside of her dress has some material sewn in so when touched, it makes a crinkle noise which is designed to help your little one learn about cause and effect, at first, Lauren used to seem quite surprised when Sophie made a noise. She has lovely big eyes and a nice warm smile making her look very cute and friendly.
One my favourite features of the doll is that she is holding a bright orange plastic ring which has three little jewels on. The jewels moved around promoting sensory play and also made a noise when Sophie was shook or the beads were banged together. By far the best benefit of the ring was that Lauren treated it a bit like a teething ring; she quickly learnt that this bit felt nicer in her mouth than the rest of the doll and because the ring was placed at the front of the doll, it was easy for her to get it into her mouth. Lauren used to love it when I used to hold Sophie in front of her and rattle the jewels, not matter what she was doing, it always seemed to grab her attention.
I could only really pick one problem with Sophie and that is that she cannot be placed in the washing machine and is hand wash only. I found this a little disappointing, especially considering the age range this is aimed at, as you can probably imagine, when out and about, quite often Sophie would end up on the floor (I swear Lauren used to think it was funny to keep throwing her out the pushchair), plus the fact the most babies put toys in the mouths, I think it really needed to be able to go in the machine, even it was at a low temperature.
When Lauren was younger, we had quite a few Lamaze toys and always been happy with there performance. Sophie is really cute, promotes lots of different areas of development and overall, I would give this doll 5 out of 5 stars and recommend.
Thanks for reading.
