Pup squeak is a cute little Lamaze plush toy that can currently (May 2012) be purchased on Amazon for £7.25. He is suitable from birth and is approximately 12 X 15 X 28 cms. Pup Squeak is brightly coloured and made of soft velour and he forms part of the extensive range of Lamaze toys, of a similar ilk.

Readers may notice that I have reviewed Lamaze toys before and that they are a mixed bag in terms of usefulness and longevity, they always look great and Pup Squeak is no exception.

Pup Squeak is able to bark if you squeeze his nose and this little feature is easy to use for small hands and always made my little boy giggle. He also squeaks when you squeeze his body, something I discovered after accidentally standing on him (Pup Squeak that is, not my son!), some months after we had him, this feature however, is very difficult to use if you are a baby or a toddler, as you really have to squeeze hard, so, my son has yet to master this part of the toy. Pup Squeaks paws are all different colours and textures, some are crinkly, others smooth, this helps to develop your childs sense of texture and learn colours, there is also a rattle inside one of the paws, that is soft on the ear. Attached to Pup Squeak is black and white bone made of cotton material, this also rattles. Pups squeaks ears are made of shiny, crinkly material, that crunch when played with.

On the top of his head is a plastic link that you can use to attach the toy to the side of a cot or pushchair and it is easy to use and is secure.

Pup Squeak is designed to stimulate your childs senses and develop their logic, I think that it also improves dexterity when trying to touch individual parts of the toy.

My son has enjoyed playing with Pup Squeak, I think the fact that he barks is a great feature and it has also encouraged my son to make dog noises and associate that with other dogs that he sees. It is a toy that has been played with for around 18 months, so, in my experience it has had a long lifespan.
What I do like about the toy is that you can hook it onto things so it does not get lost if you are out and about and also if hooked onto a car seat it stays put whilst you are driving.

Overall I would recommend Pup Squeal to others as he is great to look at, easy to clean and helps learning. I give it 4 stars, only because the squeak mechanism in the body is difficult for small children to use.
