Advantages: Looks very cute and just like Stephanie from Lazy Town
Disadvantages: A bit of a wide age gap to expect the outfit to fit
Recently I bought my friends grandchildren a Lazy Town costume each from the charity shop, the Sportacus one was terrible quality and has rarely been worn since I gave it to her grandson. On the other hand, this Stephanie costume is fantastic and his 3 year old sister has hardly taken it off in the couple of weeks she's owned it.
The set usually retails from between £15 on Ebay for a brand new costume up to £25 from heroesforkids.co.uk so it's definitely worth shopping around if you are looking to buy this for the little girl in your family.
In your Stephanie set you'll find a full outfit which will fit children aged between 3 - 5 years. My friends granddaughter is 3 and it fits her perfectly, with just one or two problems which I will tell you about over the course of the review.
The most important thing about being Stephanie is her bright pink hair, and this set contains a lovely pink wig which is well made and fits over Marnie's own bobbed hair perfectly. It is one of those fibrous wigs which comb through well so look tidy and the strands of 'hair' do not stick together to leave it looking unkepmt and messy.
The clothes themselves are a Stephanie dress, tights and a pair of legwarmers. I think these are fantastic quality and the dress in particular could easily be worn as part of a party outfit whether your child is dressing up as Stephanie or not. It is a sleeveless A-line type dress made of a satin style material and looks just like the one Stephanie wears in Lazy Town. It is soft to the touch and all the seams and fasteners are beautifully stitched so it doesn't look tacky or rushed at all.
Marnie is only just 3 so the dress hangs off her slightly, although not that much that she looks silly in her outfit but the dress is definitely too long and she was quite upset when her tactless dad pointed out that Stephanies dress is much shorter. This is a problem which could easily be solved by making different sizes in this costume as there is a huge difference in heights between a 3 year old and a 5 year old and I think it's unfair to expect the same costume to fit this rather large age gap.
The tights too are too long so my friend has to fold them under her feet before putting her pretty pink shoes on, again the people who made this costume did not put very much thought into the sizing considering a 3 year olds legs are generally much shorter and chubbier than a 5 year olds. They are very pretty tights though, a pearly pink which look absolutely lovely with the dress.
The legwarmers are a lovely dusky pink colour and are well made, they are a thin jersey type fabric and stay up on Marnies legs without sloping down to her ankles like a pair of normal legwarmers her mum decided to put on her recently.
The accessories I received with this Stephanie costume topped off the outfit perfectly. A very pretty pink shoulder bag which Marnie uses to keep her snacks and dolls clothes in, 4 sparkly pink bangles and an Alice band for her to wear in her hair/wig. These all add a little bit of interest to the costume and really make her look like Stephanie, especially when she runs around my friends living room doing her high kicks!
I think this is one of the best costumes available at the moment for any little Lazy Town fan. I think Lazy Town is brilliant anyway because it helps to encourage small children to be more active through games and dancing, I know Marnie dances much more since I bought her this costume because she wants to be just like her idol Stephanie.
Summary: My friends granddaughter adores this outfit.
