Advantages: Has 12 different songs and 6 different faces with various colours and textures.
Disadvantages: No lights with the sound so my baby would rather play with other toys..
WHAT IS IT?
This toy is a soft fabric cube with six faces with different designs, colours and sounds. There is a yellow face with a lion, a red face with a fox, green with a jungle scene, white with a polar bear, blue with a sea scene and purple with a mirrored moon.
It is battery powered and as the toy turns over, each face has a different song which is sung e.g. every time the blue side is face up it sings, "Blue fish, with scales that shine, if I pet you, will you be mine?". The clever thing about the toy is that it knows which face has landed and plays the appropriate song. There is a setting on the front which means you can change from a song to a tune.
WHAT DO BABIES LIKE ABOUT IT?
As well as each face having a colour and tune, they each have a different type of fabric to touch as part of the design, which my baby loves, e.g. the lion's mane makes a crinkling sound and the jungle scene can be covered up by some felt leaves which attach together with velcro. He is 6 months and can push the toy over to hear the different tunes and enjoys the reflective face of the moon and the feel of the various fabrics. A friend's baby who is crawling pushes this over and crawls after it as it does roll easily despite being a cube shape. It also has lots of tags on the purple side which my baby who is tag-obsessed loves! The piping round the edge makes it easy for my baby to grab and pull towards him.
WHAT DO MUMMIES LIKE ABOUT IT?
Although it is made of fabric, it is easy to wipe clean. It has an on/off button on the front, but even better there is a velcro opening on the red side which enables you to alter the volume level or to turn it off using a switch. The tunes do get stuck in your head after a while, but my baby likes them so that's ok. The only criticism I have is that because there is nothing which lights up when the tunes are played, my baby doesn't realise that the tune comes from the toy yet. He might do when he is older, but because of this he doesn't choose to play with this as much as some other interactive toys which have light and sound. My toy is a 4-year old hand me down and is still in perfect condition so it is certainly durable.
Summary: A clever toy which stimulates children through colour, texture and sound.
