Leapfrog Alphabet Airlines
Advantages: Fun songs, brightly coloured
Leapfrog make 2 of these musical movers toys, I have previously reviewed the Counting choo choo one and now am looking at the alphabet airlines. I was familiar with the Leapfrog name but had never bought any of their toys but they received quite a few for their birthday, they have all shown themselves to be good quality toys.
The pilot of this plane is the well known Leapfrog character Scout the puppy, bright green and friendly looking he is permanently waving. Leapfrog toys are normally brightly coloured and as well as Scout being green the plane has red, yellow and blue on it.
Planes are loud?
The only switch on the plane is the on/off volume control. There are 2 volume options which seems to be fairly standard across baby toys. We normally switch ours to the lower of the 2 which is perfectly audible depending on how many other toys are switched on at the same time and far quieter than normal planes!
What does it do?
To activate the sound features Scout needs to be pushed down. At a year old my little ones were able to do this by themselves and were rewarded with 3 different sounds/phrases which repeat in turn. One says 'Lets fly to the sky in my aeroplane', there is a song which is the alphabet and also the noise of a plane.
This toy was popular from the start and Scout has had his head bashed many a time over the past year.
The voice is that of a young boy which is friendly sounding to little ones and fits in well with the toy. Th e wheels go round but despite one of my girls loving cars she has never taken to pushing it round. Maybe that is doesn't push as easily along our carpet as some of their other toys.
The recommended age is 9 months+ which I think is right. Now my twins are nearly 2 they have lost interest in this for more exciting toys.
This train takes 2 x AAA which were included and so good to go once out of the packaging. They have lasted well and have not yet needed replacing.
Price and Availability
We were given the receipt with this toy in case we needed to exchange so I know it was £4.99 from Tesco, currently (August 2012) £4.97. It is also available from other toy retailers such as Amazon and Early Learning Centre for £4.99. I think this is a great price for this small toy.
Would I recommend?
Yes, it has proved a very popular little toy. It's a handy size and I used to pop it in my changing bag if I wanted to take something with me to keep them amused. The quality is really good and it still looks like new despite the amount of play it has had.
Summary: A great little musical toy from Leapfrog
