LeapFrog Alphabet Zoo Ball
Advantages: Brightly coloured and appealing
This was another toy we bought our 10 month old daughter for Christmas. I bought this using my Tesco Clubcard vouchers it was £11.99 from Tesco Direct, but you can also get it in most toy shops and on Amazon.
I had previously read good reviews about this and my daughter is a fan of musical toys. The ball requires 3 x AA batteries which come included. The ball is basically a spinner on a platform. It is fairly heavy at the base and it has rubber feet so it doesn't tip over very easily making it ideal if you have a child like my daughter who likes to push the toys away with her feet.
On one side of the ball is the on/off button which also features two different leverls of volume. On the other side there are different modes to set the ball to. The first mode is a singing mode which sings the alphabet as the wheel is spun. When the wheel stops the ball says the letter and the name of the animal, then when it is spun again it continues to sing the song from where it left off. There is also an animal sounds mode where the ball sings 'the animals have something to say' and then when it stops it says the name of the animal and the noise the animal makes. On the side of the ball is a black and white pattern which attracts baby's attention and encourages them to keep spinning the ball.
My daughter finds this really easy to spin and it doesn't take much effort. The toy is recommended from 6 months and over. It is better for a baby who can sit unaided as it can be placed on the floor in front of them and spun.
My daughter loves the music, she has recently started to dance everytime she hears some music so she loves to spin this and bounce/dance to the music. The toy is very repetative and when I read other reviews a lot of people stated that they got fed up with the noise. I have to be honest even though it is repetative I switch off to the noise. This is a really fun toy, my older nephew who is 20 months loves playing with it too and he is able to repeat the noise that the animals make. Since Christmas this toy has been used daily and my daughter loves it. The voice is also British which I prefer as it says Zebra rather than 'zeebra' which some of our Fisher Price toys do. I think that this toy will last us a long time as when my daughter gets older it will help her vocabulary and learn the animals noises. My daughter also likes the flashing arrow pointers on the side of the ball which flash randomly. This toy is great value for money if a bit repetative.
Summary: A fun singing toy that is educational!
