I have a thing about toys with batteries. I am not a fan! When my sons were given this for Christmas I smiled sweetly and said thank you and decided to put it in the toybox. However, my husband unpacked it and seeing as it already had batteries in it (a big bonus), he gave it a go.
The toy itself is very heavy, as the battery and moving part is quite big. There is a cylinder in the lions tummy, which plays a tune and sings a song when you spin it. There are a couple of different songs for the day/night scenes and the nighttime songs are more gently, sleepy music. However, there's no way to choose which you get when you spin it randomly. The songs are short, catchy and easy to learn. The only annoying thing about them is that they are sung in a strong American accent.
I discovered when I read the instruction leaflet that the lion has a night light setting. This has been great and the lion actually lives in one of the boys cots now! The nightlight comes on when you spin the tummy, plays a little soothing sound and fades out gradually over five minutes.
So I did change my mind somewhat about these. The thing is now though, we often hear the nightlight sound playing in the night as my son has learnt to spin the tummy and does so when he wakes in the night!
