When my little boy began cruising (walking but with the aid of furniture) we decided that we needed a baby walker that would help him in moving forwards rather than doing the sidestepping along the couch and as our son was familiar with Leapfrog toys having the Learn and Groove Table and Scout the dog we decided to purchase this walker for £27.99 from our local Smyths Toy store.
When I became a parent I really didn't know too much about Leapfrog and was mainly familiar with Fisher- Price and instinctively began to purchase those products until my husband came back with Twinkle Twinkle Scout which was by Leapfrog and the voices were british. Obviously as a learning toy we wanted our child to learn as best he could and we liked the idepurchasing toys that had british voices to help him learn.
LeapFrog make educational toys, interactive books and electronic games that inspire a love of learning. helping with maths, reading, language and co-ordination skills and I have to say that they are now my favourite brand when it comes to purchasing a new toy for our son.
When we spotted this prodct in the toy store the toy was covered by cardboard packaging and you could "try before you buy" and we liked that it had the familiar Scout and Violet Characters that our son had grown to love from a very young age.
It features 55+ songs and musical activities, by flipping the page of the book you can switch from learning to musical mode.
The removable front panel is ideal to take away with you if you don't want to take the walker or are going away and are limited for space but need to keep your child occupied by spinning, pressing, pulling, flipping, rattling and even talking on the phone to Scout, our son's 2nd favourite thing to play with.
One of the main bonus features that we had for this item was that we saw that the wheels are textured and can also be locked to ensure baby is supported during those first important steps.
The walker is suitable for 6months to 3 years but I would say it all depends on your child's development as we purchased this as our son turned 10 months.
The main aspects of this toy is that it teaches:
- Gross and Fine Motor Skills
- First Words
- Early Number Senses
- The Alphabet
- Shapes and Colours
The walker can be wiped down easily with a damp cloth however I do recommend not using any chemical products on this as not only could they be harmful to your child but it can remove paint on the actual toy.
I like how it teaches baby the alphabet, numbers, and colours with one flip of the page and then it becomes a musical piece which our son loves bopping to and shaking his head and laughing at the musical tunes. By moving the blue ball up and down it will either start the ABCD song which our son recognises from his Leapfrog Caterpillar and Learn and Groove Table or if in music mode plays a trumpet sound.
The letter names when pressed will illuminate and play piano sounds, and the shape buttons will either state the colour or will make drum sounds.
Our son will quite happily sit and play with this toy for a long time, as he already had the learn and groove table and a lot of the items on this walker operate in the same manner.
You can collapse the legs on the walker to make it lower so it is more suitable for younger babies to play with it on the floor.
At the top of the walker is roller that when it spins the toy inside rattles around, the kitten's paw when lifted will spin the yellow and red circle around and is our son's favourite part of the toy!
The blue button can be moved up and down.
Overall this is a great item to have and gets used all the time by our little boy.
We have not yet had to replace the batteries from when it was purchased and it shows no sign of wear and tear, it has to be said it's even one of my favourite items to have.
