Advantages: Gorgeous colours/details. Fun (tuneful!) sounds.
Disadvantages: Availablitity...the range is discon at M&P...
The Barnacle Boat Stacker is one of several activity toys from the 'Splash' range at Mamas & Papas. The range has now been discontinued, but items from the range (which also includes a bouncer, activity gym, car window toy etc) can still be found on websites such as Amazon & eBay.
I first saw the range on eBay & instantly fell in love with the colours & style. The whole range centres around a nautical theme & includes details such as boats, fish & birds. The colours are predominantly turquoises with hints of yellows & purples.
The stacker features a soft base with pole, onto which varying size rings can be placed. The base itself is turquoise with 'Splish' & 'Splash' embroidered onto it, & has a little bird sitting on the top of the pole. The base also makes a funny sound when turned upside down (don't ask me to describe it because I can't!). My son absolutely loves this noise - he giggles & squeals when I shake the base really fast!
There are then 3 rings which slide onto the base. The largest is turquoise & purple, with different textures & embroidered fish & starfish. It features a 'chime' inside, & has a rattling whale & a squeaky crab attached, both of which dangle from the ring. The middle ring is in the shape of a boat (embroidered with the word Barnacle), again with different colours/ textures, & features a dangly fish & an anchor (which when pulled makes the ring/boat vibrate). The smallest ring is a vibrant yellow & I think is meant to look like a submarine. It has embroidered port-hole windows & a flap behind which hides an embroidered cat, & has a rattle inside.
This is a fabulous toy. The colours & details are gorgeous, & there are so many fun activities & sounds within it. I highly recommend this (& the rest of the range) to anyone looking for funky, stylish toys. My son is a bit young for it yet (in the sense of actually 'stacking' the toy, or figuring out how to pull the anchor & activate the vibrate - although he has done this once by default!), but enjoys shaking the rings and listening to the rattles & chimes.
The Barnacle Boat Stacker can be found on Amazon for around £16-£17. (Price correct @ August 09).
Summary: A lovely toy that both me & my son enjoy.
