“ Brand: Mega Blocks / Age: 12 months / Type: Creative Toys „
Big, Bold and colourful for children to build and knock down - probably the motivation for Mega Bloks... Either that or money! Mega Bloks are mega lego and much safer for toddlers than the smaller lego pieces that seven year olds receive for Christmas and birthdays. They're big, bold and attractive to children. As parents we all worry about our children's safety and Mega Bloks like to make sure there's nothing to worry about.
What do they look like
The bloks are variant in size and are in red, blue, green and yellow. The bloks are quite chunky and come in different shapes but a vast majority are squares and rectangles but there are a couple of half moon, triangle, circle and star shaped. There's nothing extravagant about them and they're not particularly eye catching for adults but for children they're a lot more attractive.
Durability and Quality
There are no batteries inluded because they are not needed but to me pieces seem a little bit thin but this isn't really a problem because they're not thin enough to be broken easily. The bag that the bloks come in is a see through plastic with red piping and a red handle and is reasonably thick so wont break easily. I like this because it gives me some storage for the bloks when I come to store them at the end of the day to keep the room clutter free.
I first saw this when I bought the building bloks box with the mega bloks which I've also reviewed but when I looked at this I wasn't sure if I would need the bloks as I wanted to make sure my son liked his other bloks first - and he did! So I returned to the shop a month later and picked up the bag of mega bloks which was £20 and I found this a bit more worth for money taking into consideration that I previously paid £17 for a box with 32 in whereas the bag contained 70 which seemed to be a lot better value for money. Getting them back I expected some more stickers but couldn't find any which was a little disapointing but it wasn't anything life threatening.
Value for money
As I said with my previous purchase - I found that £17 for 32 was a bit steap really but with this bag containing 70 for £3 more I found this a better spending of my money. Although the bag doesn't serve as being a toy which is a shame and there weren't stickers so I think that it's probably just about good value for money and I'd buy more if I thought that my son needed more.
Overall I'm going to rate this product five out of five stars because I think that the value for money is a lot better and my only negative is that the bag can't serve as being a toy with the product although for £20 you can't expect everything. I would recommend this to a friend and I would buy this again myself if I deemed it necessary.
Mega blogs are an essential toy for any child, the blocks help with hand eye co-ordination, fine motor skills and are great for imaginative play too. I managed to find an 80piece bag of Mega blocks on offer for £8, an absolute bargain as they normally retail at £14.
The blocks are colourful and a nice size so small hands can easily manouver them into place. They are compatible with all mega bloks products, which is excellent as i have a fire truck which can be used with these blocks, the kids love filling it full of blocks. The only draw back I have found is that some of the blocks tend to be a bit loose and don't fit together properly.
Initially when I wanted to get my daughter some building blocks I was think of Lego duplo, as it is a well know brand and I played with it as a kid, however the price deterred me. I then looked into mega looks and found that the price was much cheaper but the quality and range still remained excellent.
My 12 month old son has learnt to build the blocks in to a tower from a very young age, as they are such a good size for small hands, he can play for ages building and taking apart. My 3 year old also loves playing with the blocks but she pretends they are people. I am so pleased that i purchased these blocks as they keep kids occupied for ages.
I would definately recommend them to any mother with young kids
**BEST BUY SO FAR!!**
These Mega Blocks have definately been the best buy so far for our toddler who is now 23months. We bought them at Christmas when he was 18 months and he has loved and played with them every single day since!
**STICK WITH THE MEGA BLOCKS**
Having seen how much my son has enjoyed playing with his mega blocks, I thought we'd have a try with the next stage up. Don't bother! I have since bought slightly smaller duplo lego, aged 18 months to 5 and aged 2 to 5, thinking that with it being a bit smaller, it would be a step up from the above blocks. How wrong could I be! My son is most not impressed, and so am I!
Firstly, be very weary of buying anything smaller than these blocks for your toddler. Not only can my son fit the small square blocks into this mouth, he gets extremely frustrated trying to stack them together. Also, they are really sharp in comparison to the above mega blocks. Stick with the mega blocks!
**SAFER THAN OTHER BLOCKS!**
The first and main thing about these mega blocks is that they are SAFE! The duplo lego I recently bought, states its safe for my sons age, but it really isn't. I was completely horrified when he managed to fit a small brick into his mouth.
You will have no worries like that with these mega blocks though. They are large brightly coloured and made of chunky solid plastic, with no sharp edges as all are rounded and smooth to the touch. None of them are able to fit in a toddlers mouth all at once.
**PLAY AND LEARN**
Suitable for encouraging colour recognition, motor skills, hand to eye co-ordination and imaginative play, the Mega blocks provide lots of happy smiles. The blocks have different animals on so you can mix and match your own animal which can be fun. There are also blocks in the shapes of trees, some that have moving bits on them and some plain ones.
My son sits and plays with just 3-4 blocks on his lap, at great length each and every day. He sits there, stacking and unstacking them looking most pleased with himself. He likes to take a couple in the bath with him and on outings in his pram as well!
Just a few months ago, we were stuck in the hospital with our poorly little boy for ages. I was so grateful for the mega blocks we'd packed away in our emergency bag! They kept him entertained for hours sat on our laps whilst he was so ill.
He also enjoys sitting inside a ring of mega blocks built around him. He has just started to engage in role play, so enjoys standing up, and sitting down again, and jumping in and out of his ' ring of bricks'. He pretends its a lift lol!
Best buy so far!
I recently purchased these Megablocks for my 17 month old nephew.
The age rating for these is 1+. They come in a large, zip up bag which contains 80 blocks. The blocks are large, bright and colourful and can be stacked together to form things. They are made of sturdy plastic which appears to be nice and strong, even when my nephew decided he wanted a bite of them!
The best thing we seem to enjoy is building towers and knocking them over, but I think they would be enjoyable for a child a little older also who wants to build certain objects also.
They are very easy to stack together and pull apart which means playing with them is easy and cleaning them up is even easier! They are nice and chunky so easy to grip and hold which makes them really easy to play with.
They were about £12 for the bag of 80 blocks I believe, which I thought was a good price for the amount you get and the fact that they will last for a long time.
They are easy to clean and even easier to store that the blocks are enjoyable for me too! You don't need to go to the hassle of finding somewhere to store them, simply because they can go back into their bag.
These are the type of toy that has been around for years and will be around for years to come I think - simply because they are so suitable for children and so easy and fun to play with, and at a good price too!
As I was wandering aimlessly down the toy aisle looking for something constructive for my 15 month old daughter to play with I came across an 80 piece bag of mega blocks.
I thought these would be great for her as they were not too small like lego pieces, they were brightly coloured and were nice and chunky in size. The age guide is 1+.
The price was only about £8.00 from Asda when I got them which is really good value although I have seen them elsewhere being sold for a lot more than that!
The blocks come in nice storage bag made of very thick plastic which has a zip around the top so theres no need to find a spare storage box to put them in, just fill the bag and zip it up, tidying done!
My daughter took to them straight away and once I'd shown her how to fix the blocks together she was stacking and building like there was no tomorrow. The fun part being knocking them all down again after!
The blocks are made of really sturdy plastic and are red, blue, green and yellow, so not only do they help with motor skills you can teach your child colours while they are playing.
Mega blocks are so good for inter action as there are enough pieces to build something alongside your child and join in with imaginative play.
They are simple but effective!
I wanted to get my baby mega blocks so that when she is a bit older she will be getting into lego. We got managed to find some pink mega blocks at toys r us for £14.99 which contains 80 pieces - enough for a child her age (9 months) however please note that the recomended age on the packaging is 1 year. At the moment she likes to tip them out of the bag and bash them togeather to make a noise, however she doesn't understand that they can stick togeather to build things - i'm sure she will learn this in time!
The mega blocks are enjoyable though what ever your age, we like to build towers and shapes with the blocks only for our daughter to knock them all down - a good game!
The reason i like mega blocks is because it is a toy that has been around for long time and is well made. I dont like some of the rubish toys that are about at the moment and find that mega blocks remind me of my own childhood.
Overall i can't think of any negative points -
easy to clean, easy to play with, suitable for everyone, colourful, encourage hand eye co-ordination and best of all very good value for money!
We bought these from toys r us for our sons 1st birthday as i have always seen mega bloks everywhere and alot of our friends children have them so he is quite familiar with them and seemed to like them. They were priced at £14.99 at the time and since buying them i havent seen them anywhere else cheaper but its always worth a search on the net.
The pack contains 22 blocks....some of which have different animals on, or bits and pieces that move. Also in the pack there are tree shaped blocks and some regular plain ones. The pack is a zip up one making it easy to bring the blocks somewhere when visiting family etc.
My little boy has really enjoyed playing with these blocks and they have kept him busy for hours as the combinations of how these blocks go together are amazing !! You can make some funny looking animals with these blocks as alot of them have a different part of an animal they can be mixed and matched with one another. The blocks are all bright colours to keep little minds interested and are made of very durable materials.Mine have been built up, knocked down, thrown around and are still in perfect as new condition.
My only problem with these is the price as i think looking back now that they were slightly too dear. They are a nice toy and you will definitely get the use out of them but still i think that nearer the £10 mark would be more suitable.
