Advantages: Very tough, Good price for a quality toy, Get extra sets to 'grow' with the child

Disadvantages: I keep wanting to buy more ;o)

The cry goes out all over the land "NO MORE TOYS THAT NEED BATTERIES!!!"

All parents have said that at one time or another. There is nothing more annoying than your child's favourite toy running out of batteries when you don't have any replacements.

The answer? look for toys that don't require batteries, not only will you save a fortune but you'll also save time looking for screwdrivers and opening up those fiddly little battery compartments.

This is where I come to Megabloks, a good quality toy that DOESN'T need batteries (phew)

Megabloks are just fab. If you have a baby or young child you can’t go wrong by buying them a basic set this Christmas (Yes it IS time to think about Christmas!)

Megabloks are the ‘competitive’ equivalent of Lego and in my opinion the only difference is the price, Megablokes are at least a third cheaper which is a lot of money saved when you have a few rugrats hanging around the place all wanting toys for christmas and birthdays!

They come in different sizes for different age groups...

There are ‘baby’ Megabloks which are soft and great for a young baby to grasp and shove in it’s mouth!

There are ‘maxi’ Megabloks which are brilliant for babies aged from about six months (when they can grasp a toy) way up to 7 or 8 years of age - my son is 7 and will still sit and play with maxi bloks.

‘Mini’ Megabloks are the smaller version great for children from around 3 years of age and above.

I first discovered them at a mother and toddler group, the kids all went wild for them. They get used for everything from tower building to being used as pretend food.

I got a great set of ‘maxi’ Megabloks a couple of weeks ago from Woolworths for £10 as I am starting to set up a childminding business and need some more to top up our existing hoard (great excuse
to shop!) There are 100 blocks in there and the kids can make all sorts of things, they love to empty the bag all over the floor and sit in the middle of them all and build towers etc

They are easy to wash, I'd recommend filling up the bath with hot soapy water and chucking them in for a good soak. kill two birds with one stone and chuck them in with your child at bathtime, they will love it!

Megabloks also come in play sets, we have a farm and a fire station which, as well as having plain blocks, have little figures so the kids can use their gorgeous little imaginations even more.

If you are a grandparent or someone who regularly looks after children Megabloks are a great toy to buy because they are so affordable and the play value is great because the children make a different ‘creation’ everytime. Believe me, you will be so grateful on that wet Sunday afternoon when you tip them all over the floor and the kids go into their own little world to play with them, all you need to do then is make yourself a cuppa! (that’s if you can resist joining in yourself)

I have seen them to buy at Woolworths (who from time to time do great deals like buy one get one half price) Toys’r’us and Tesco. Prices range from around £10 for a basic set upto about £25 for a cart with wheels so your littlin can take his Megabloks wherever he goes!
