Advantages: great fun, cheap, educational

Disadvantages: untidy

For my sons first Christmas, we seemed to be inundated with Mega Bloks! There must have been a special offer somewhere I think. He was only three months old so they sat in a corner for a wee while!!

He received a huge 100 block bag, with zip pull, a lorry, with a tipper on the back, full of blocks, castle box, which is in the shape of a castle and contains more blocks. The bag is still intact, still full of bricks.

When they are all out together, boy, what a mess! I have luckily been blessed with a tidy child who actually helps tidy up!

Mega Bloks are a modern day version of Duplo, a bit more curvy and a bit bigger. The range was quite small to begin with, but over time it has expanded to quite a huge selection.

They are made of sturdy plastic in all colours. When in a set, such as the castle box, you get grey to build the castle walls! But you can expect to see green, red, blue, yellow, pink and blue.

The brick are easy for children, from toddlering, to pick up and use. It may be a bit tricky for them to clip and unclip them at first but as the child develops so does the play!

Although Zach did think it was more fun just to empty his bag out and leave them for mummy to pick up at first, he has now developed and started to build houses for his animals etc.

Products available from Mega Bloks are quite extensive now. They begin from 1+ with just basic blocks but also with interactive computer type toys to help introduce colours and shapes etc. There are also animals which you can mix and match the head body and legs to make new and exciting animals. Zach had the mix and match cow and pig. He thought it was hilarious giving the pig a cows body! When the nose was pressed the animal would play a song too. Such as Old MacDonald. He got this for his first Christmas and it still works now, two years on!

There are safari sets, with animals and vehicles, a train set, emergency service vehicles and extr
a people, which you can in small or larger sets. They start from as little as £4.99. A new addition to Zachs collection this Christmas was a set of mix and match Dinosaurs. He loves dinosaurs so this set of three was ideal for him. They cost £9.99 and come with three heads, three bodies and three tails. All brightly coloured and lovely to play with.
Here is an example of the range of products .

These are huge sets, such as a castle and cottage which are big enough for the child to actually play in and then fold away until another day!

5+ years

For the older children there are aliens, Power Rangers, dragons, Teenage Mutant Turtles, Warriors. Lots of excitement for all children.

The prices all do start low aand you can build up sets but the full sets are very reasonable. I dont hink I have seen any product much over £20.00 Obviously I could be wrong.

There is a website to view all of the products. The prices are in dollars but at least you can see the full range of products before you went out and bought them. www.megabloks.com. There is childrens corner too which gives kids an even closer up look at there prospective new toys! Might be a bit dangerous!!

Woolworths seems to be a good outlet for Megabloks as is Early Learning Centre, for smaller items. Toyrus probably will sell it too.

A fantastic toy which never goes out of fashion. Well worth the few pounds it costs!
!!

Thank you for reading

Why is it that the adult supervising the kid always seems to end up building something for them when it is the kid who is supposed to be playing with them? Either I'm a big kid, or my nephews/nieces have no imagination lol
