      Highchair toy

When it comes to eating I think anything that can help and distract a child is great. My son has a limited attention span when it comes to eating, he loves to eat and sit in his highchair but if something more exciting is happening then he wants to be finished and get down and go and play so I usually have about 10 minutes to feed him as much as I can.

This is why this highchair toy is perfect as it keeps him entertained that little bit longer and I can then make sure he has eaten enough to sustain him until the next snack or meal time.

This highchair toy is from Mothercare and has a baby safari theme. The toy consists of a plastic holder which then has a wheel on it that goes around. The wheel has three plastic animals attached to it and they go round also, a bit like little cars on a ferris wheel, the thought being that a little baby can reach out and spin this around themselves and keep themselves entertained. There is a suction cup on the bottom of the toy to attach it to the highchair. In the very beginning when we first got this toy the suction cup worked well and would hold the toy on well but now it seems to have warped a little bit and doesn't really stick but given that my son is now 17 months old he doesn't really play with it on his highchair anymore, just on the floor so it served its purpose well when we had it on the highchair. However, if your baby is quite rough and gives it quite a bit spin it is liable to fall off the highchair which ours has done a few times but its quite robust and hasn't broken so that is good.

This toy is simple but effective and I usually find those are the best and the most played with toys. The toy is recommend from 6 months and I think thats a fair indication as that's when most babies start to sit up and eat in their high chair.

The three animals are each attached on a separate bar at different intervals on the wheel. This means that when you spin the wheel you get a cascading effect with the animals falling as the wheel goes round. There are little balls inside each one so when they go round they make quite a rattling noise, excellent for little babies, they love it, not so nice on the ears of parents. The three animals spin on their own axis too so its fun to just spin them individually too. There is a blue elephant, a red monkey and an orange lion although all of them have lots of different colours on them too. The animals are cute looking and fun and inviting to little hands.

Mothercare say that this toy will help to develop hand to eye coordination and physical development, help develop auditory and perception skills and teaches baby about cause and effect but most of all it's a bright and fun toy that your baby with love - the perfect way to keep baby entertained in their highchair while you're busy preparing their next meal!

The toy costs £9.99 and is available from Mothercare.
