Mothercare's bedtime bear was bought for our daughter when she was very small, at around 2 weeks old and was one of the first toys she owned. Although it was a present, I have seen it several times in Mothercare for sale, costing around £10. The bear is suitable from birth.
Bedtime bear is around 40cm x 25cm x 8cm and has a cream body with a pink outfit representing pyjamas, although the body and the pyjamas are all made of the same fluffy material and stitched together as one. The outfit includes a very cute bobble hat (a 'nightcap'), representing a very traditional style and the bobble at the top flops down onto the bear's (very cute) face. The main part of the outfit across the body has the words 'bedtime bear' stitched into it. A similar bedtime bear with a blue outfit on is also available.
The bear is made of a very soft and fluffy fabric. Although the bear is suitable from birth, I didn't allow my daughter to have this in her cot at such a young age, as I felt due to it's size and fluffiness that it wasn't appropriate for her to have overnight. We have never used it for that purpose even now. She has however used this as a cuddly toy throughout the day as a normal cuddly toy - if I'm honest though she seems to have taken more of an interest in it now that she's a bit older, much more so than she did at it's original recommended age. At 19 months, she now grabs onto the teddy and cuddles it really into herself, presumably because it's incredibly soft and so cuddly to squeeze. She loves cuddly toys in general though and although he gets attention a fair bit, I wouldn't say that this one gets more attention than the others that she owns.
Although it's been squeezed and cuddled quite a lot over the last few months, it never seems to have lost it's shape at all and looks in fairly good condition. In terms of washing, it is supposed to be machine washable but that it something that I've never tried to do, instead choosing to just dab with a damp cloth which seems to have cleaned it pretty well. Due to it's very fluffy texture, it's not the perfect way to clean it but it does the job sufficiently.
I would recommend Bedtime bear, it's a nice addition to our collection. Although it's never been one of my daughter's favourites, it does get a lot of cuddles and considering she has owned it since birth, it has lasted quite well. I'm not convinced by the price though, as there's not much to it. £10 seems very pricey for what it is really. Four stars it is.
