Advantages: Kai enjoys it, price
Disadvantages: I'd prefer it to be made of wood
Malakai absolutely LOVES his stacking rings! We've got a set of stacking cups as well, but he much prefers the rings for what ever reason.
If he is upset or wound up it completely calms him down & settles him if I sit him down with this. I think this is because it gives him something to concentrate on and he enjoys putting things together and completing tasks.
The bright colours (including yellow, red, orange, green & blue) are obviously really appealing to a baby of Kai's age and he always eyes them up, but I think he is slightly too young to understand the aspect of actually sorting/stacking them by colour!
When I first bought him this toy, me and my partner made sure to show him how to use it and he immediately wanted to try him self and kept trying to put the rings on, but he couldn't quite grasp the concept at first which led to an angry Kai. I think because it has a rocking base it does make it a bit harder, but it also acted as a great distraction when Kai was struggling to put the rings on and he enjoyed making it rock himself.
However although he did struggle at first with the rings it only took him about 3 days (and plenty of encouragement) to fully understand and master the skill, leading to him being a right little mr big head! But a younger baby would definitely find it difficult to stack the rings independantly (Kai is 12mos and we got this when he was nearly 11mos).
The whole time that he plays with this he has the biggest , proudest grin on his face, it's so cute! We have had this toy for about a month & he still loves it. The pole and rings are a soft plastic so really durable and easy to wash and keep hygienic. I tend to avoid plastic toys because of the chemicals used in some of them & I'd prefer it to be wooden especially because he puts it the rings in his mouth.
This toy was perfect for my baby because he really enjoys putting things together and investigating stuff and the taking things off and putting them back on amazed him at first. He also likes the different textures and the blue 1 with a raised & dotty texture seems to be his favourite. The stacking rings help to keep him entertained and he has had heaps of playtime with these making them well worth the £6 I paid, and they're half price at the min too so definitely get some!
