Nuby Bug a Loop Teething RIng
Advantages: Colourful, great shape
Disadvantages: Cannot be sterilised
As I have mentioned in many of my recent reviews, my almost six month old daughter is teething very badly, but unfortunately we have yet to see any signs of first teeth appearing. My daughter has actually been in the early stages of teething since 3 months, drooling a lot, and wanting to chew on everything, but we are now at the point of ticking all of the teething symptom boxes. Most of my daughters favourite toys at the moment are those that she can chew on, and so when she was given this Nuby Bug A Loop Teether by her grandparents, her eyes lit up.
This bug a loop teether can be purchased in many of the supermarkets as well as toy shops and I have seen it in various places around the £3-£4 mark. This product, like other Nuby teethers I own, is BPA free which I am happy about. It states on the packaging as well that this is suitable for children 3 months plus, although my daughter was four months when she first received this teether.
This teether, is as you would guess by the name, in the shape of a ring. The teether is made up of a variety of different shapes all attached with internal string. There are textured round coloured parts, there are the 'bugs' many of which have wings or parts that baby can really get a good hold of and chew at, as well as smaller beads in between.
My daughter loves being able to hold this herself and has got good enough motor control at this stage to bring it up to her mouth herself and move it to the part that she wants to chew on. There is no doubt that her favourite part of the whole ring are the wings of some of the bugs. It seems to be something that she can chew more and at the moment, seems to help with the teething - although there are times when she can't put anything near the gums without crying. Between her other favourite teether Sophie the Giraffe, and this one, I hardly go out the door without having them both with me, for my daughter to chew on. She can spend quite a long time chewing away at this teether, and the fact that there are so many parts within the ring with different textures, it keeps her busy for a while and also, obviously helps with the teeth. The ring is very colourful which is also eye catching, and my daughter automatically took a shine to this teether when it was first produced, probably due to the colours.
The only negative thing I have to say about this product, and it is the same with the other Nuby teether that I have, is that it cannot be sterilised either in a steriliser or even by cold sterilisation. It can only be cleaned by a damp cloth, which I think it pretty poor, as my daughter can often drop this when out and about, and I would rather sterilise it to know it is clean that just give it a wipe, but I am scared of damaging it. I try not to therefore give this ring to her when she is in the buggy or somewhere where is can drop on dirty ground.
All in all, my daughter loves this teether. It is colourful and there are lots of different textures to keep them busy and help with those sore gums. It is a good shape for a baby to hold themselves but it is just a pity that you cannot sterilise the product.
