My son is obsessed with Octonauts and so these Gups are always on his wish lists for when he earns a treat or it's a birthday or Christmas. You are able to purchase these Gups separately or you can sometimes find packs of them all. This Gup on its own cost £15 when I bought it new from Tesco but you are available to find these from around the £12 mark currently. It is incredibly well made from a sturdy plastic and measures 9.5 x 20.3 x 20.3 cm. This is an ideal size for small hands. My son is capable on his own to operate all the features which he is most impressed with as am I. None of the annoying "Mummy, can you open this for me please?" with this toy. Bliss! It has a clear dome on the top of the Gup which hinges open to put the figures inside. This does sometimes come off when my son gets a bit too rough with his underseas adventures but simply clicks back into place. The pack comes with the main Gup,(yellow with grey, slightly-bendable,side fins) a blue hose and a Captain Barnacles to fixed into a diving suit. It also has a Manta Ray fish and a plastic net. Gup-D is kind of a submarine I suppose which can be used on land or in water. It has 3 sturdy small wheels on the base which enable my son to play with it on the floor doing random zoom-zoom noises associated with the Octonauts. I am also pleased to say that it doubles as a bath toy too. There is a blue tube that attaches to the front of the Gup and then the other end to Captain Barnacles. (The bear in the orange diving suit). The fin at the back of the Gup is depressed which then sends a burst of air through the front, along the tube to the diver. This creates a somewhat realistic diving experience for the Captain. My son absolutely loves this and the tube is now kept in the bathroom to avoid losing it in the toy box. The net also fits on the front of the Gup which, once the fin is operated, can burst off and catch the Manta Ray. (The fish also changes the colour of its spots when it gets wet too which is an interesting feature.) I love that it isn't a toy that needs any kind of batteries and it purely relies on the child's imagination for effective play times. Overall, I would not hesitate buying this again as the amount of time that my son plays with this far outweighs the initial purchase price. For it being played with daily, it is showing some signs of wear but only to the few additional painted features on it which, to be honest, doesn't affect the look or use of the Gup. I'm sure all 'real' submarines show wear anyway and it just adds to the character of the toy. The age range for this is 3 years and over.
