This set of wooden skittles by Orange Tree are a lovely toy for toddlers. I much prefer Wooden toys over plastic ones and this brand manufacture a really cute range of traditional toys for little people.
The set consists of six small skittles, each one a different character: a mouse, a lion, a dog, a frog, a cat and a zebra. They are hand painted in striking colours and were highly appealing to my toddler. The set comes with two small wooden balls for rolling and knocking down the skittles.
On the flip side these skittles are perhaps not sturdy enough for their intended purpose. As they are obviously going to be knocked about quite a bit they need to be highly durable and unfortunately it wasn't long before an ear fell off of the dog and an eye off of the frog. This was splintered so the frog is no longer part of our collection.
Having said that, my Daughter loves to play with her skittles, and actually she doesn't even use them as skittles that much, which is perhaps just as well. She loves to put them in and out of bags and carry them around and just look at and talk to them. They have kept her attention and she doesn't get bored of them, they are one of the few toys that I don't put into rotation but have them out to be played with at all times.
This set of skittles are really quite beautiful and would make a great gift.
Being a fan of wooden toys, my son has a rather large collection from Orange Tree Toys, who specialise in traditional wooden toys for young children. My son is approaching two years old and with his joy of knocking things over and standing them back up again, the set of wooden animal skittles from this manufacturer seemed a worthwhile purchase.
This product is available from Amazon and the price has been reduced ever so slightly since my purchase. They are now available at just £14.44 with free shipping.
My initial response when I received my order from Amazon was that of disappointment as these skittles are rather small. Each of the six wooden animal skittles are just 10cm high. When I looked at the product description again I soon realised that this is in fact mentioned and it is something that I had unfortunately bypassed. However I do believe that such a small product should be priced somewhere under £10.00.
I also received one damaged skittle. Although packaged rather well in bubble wrapping and a cardboard box, one of the characters had a broken ear. I have now fixed this with a little wood glue, though I am keeping a close eye on this and the others in case they happen to get damaged again. They are made to be knocked over after all.
The wooden animal skittle set comprises of six skittles and two balls. Each of the skittles is brightly painted with lovely vivid colours, ideal to catch the eye of a young child. Though made from wood, they also have small parts which are made from felt, wool and other materials. This gives each character a little more depth and texture and they really are rather appealing.
The skittles consist of a frog, a dog, a lion, a mouse, a zebra and a cat. The two wooden balls included are also made from wood and again brightly coloured. One is green and one pink. These make the game accessible to two players.
The age guidance for this product is 36 months, though my son plays with them now under close supervision, just as with any of his toys.
What I particularly like about this toy is that we are able to play alongside our little boy, rather than him sitting and playing alone. The wooden animal skittles set is certainly a great interactive toy and can be enjoyed by parent and child or even two children.
My son simply adores animals and so these skittles appealed to him from the onset. He will name each one as he stands them up and then knock them down with relative ease.
In summary I do believe that this product should be priced a little lower. However it is an attractive set which provides plenty of enjoyment and with Christmas approaching it would make an ideal small stocking filler.
