It was while on holiday in Ireland last month that my husband and I stumbled across the Orange Tree Toys Wooden Toolbox in a fantastic little baby boutique. Our son already has a number of wooden toys from Orange Tree as we are great fans of traditional toys, those which encourage imaginative play rather than putting on a show of some sort. The Wooden Toolbox consists of a brightly coloured wooden box which turns over to create a workbench. At the top of the workbench and along the sides are various sized holes. Included are a number of wooden screws, cogs, dowels, strips with further holes, a hammer, a screwdriver and a spanner. As the holes are different sizes, children are able to explore how easily each piece fits into each hole. Some of the dowels for instance will drop through certain holes, whereas they will need to aid of the hammer to pass through others. The cogs and screws can be fitted together quite easily as all parts are chunky and just right for little hands. All of the pieces included are quickly and easily stored away in the toolbox after use. The handle at the top of the toolbox means that children as well as adults can carry it around with ease. With its vivid colours and easy to grasp pieces, this product has been designed with young children in mind. It does however have a few sharp edges on some parts which I feel could be a hazard for younger children and should have been smoothed down before painting. This product is strong, sturdy and very durable. The painted surfaces on the toolbox and its accessories make it very easy to simply wipe clean whenever needed. The Wooden Toolbox by Orange Tree Toys encourages imaginative play as do traditional toys of this kind. It also aids motor skills and hand and eye co-ordination. Overall this toy has been by far the very best purchase we have made to date with regards to toys for our toddler. In fact he has played with this every day without fail since we returned from holiday. He is quite simply engrossed by it and has even learned to say the word 'hammer' simply through playing with it. It is also a fantastic toy to play alongside your child and our son will always get us involved by passing us screws, cogs and tools. I am very favourable towards toys like this as it means that he does not have to sit and play alone. The Orange Tree Toys Wooden toolbox is suitable for children of 12 months upward. It is currently available from Amazon at just £16.95 with £1.00 shipping fee. This is a product that I would highly recommend and a great idea for Christmas!
