When my daughter started in reception at school they took it in turns with another group to bring home what they call chatter matters bags. These bags are great and will include a story, some colouring or counting activity and a game most of which are from the Orchard Games range.
The game comes in a cardboard box which is pretty strong, the box is bright yellow in colour and on it there is a red dog and a blue dog each with a playing card and a matching card pictured. The front of the box tells you it is an Orchard game and that it is suitable for children for ages 2-5 years.
Inside the box there is a set of instructions which obviously is always a great help, 4 playing boards and 24 playing cards. There are 6 different pictures on each of the playing boards and each picture is bordered by a different colour, there is yellow, red, orange, green, purple and blue and then the picture inside the border is in the same colour. The 24 playing cards match the 24 different pictures on the four playing boards.
The game is very easy to play hence the age range it is meant for and basically each player is trying to find all 6 cards they need to match the pictures on their playing board. We played by laying all 24 cards on the table and taking it in turns to flip a card over if the card was on your card then you would place the card over the playing board but if it wasn't then it gets turned back over. I like that you can incorporate memory skills into the game too and this seemed to really help my daughter in the time we had the game so we then bought it ourselves.
The game helps improve your childs memory aswell as teaching them colours and you can also use the cards to teach about things such as animals, vehicles and everyday objects.
My daughter enjoyed playing this game although her interest in the game has near enough ended although she is now 5 so this is the stated upper end of the game, we will soon be beginning to introduce the game to our younger daughter who is 2 in a couple of months although we have already started using the cards as flash cards with her we have not actually tried playing the game with her yet.
I have not come across an Orchard Game which isn't good and this is no exception, the game is simple to play, great quality, educational and at the £8 we paid it is great value too.
Summary: Another great from Orchard Games
