As my girls approached their 2nd birthday they discovered Peppa Pig on the tv channel Nick Jr, she became a firm favourite so when my husband was asked what they would like for their birthday anything Peppa was the suggestion. As I had also been saying this to friends I was worried that we would end up with duplicates but fortunately the Peppa Pig range is extensive so this didn't happen! The girls were really excited to open up these Lullaby Peppas which I hadn't seen before but looked great. Peppa Pig This Peppa Pig soft plush toy is approximately 30cm high and so was bigger than the other Peppa Pig toy that my girls had. I think they prefer their toys to be smaller as they aren't very big for their age and so find these Peppa's a bit big to cuddle. This toy is however aimed at children aged 3 years + so I'm hoping that they will grow into them. In terms of safety I am more than happy for my 2 year olds to play with this toy as I can't see anything that is unsafe for them. The toy is beautifully soft with good quality sewing of the face details. Peppa is wearing her familiar red dress which is also well made and soft to the touch. The dress has a hole in the front for the heart and this could do with being slightly larger as the heart doesn't fit through it properly causing the dress to ride up, not very lady like for Peppa! Lullaby & light show time On the tummy of Peppa is a removable plastic heart, the gap is elasticated making it easy to remove. When you first unpack Peppa the heart is tied to the lining of Peppa but the instructions advise you to remove this. The heart has a switch on the back with 3 positions, on, try me & off. Ours came set on the try me mode when the front of the heart is pressed in this mode the light show comes on and Peppa starts singing twinkle twinkle little star. She starts singing again ever time the heart is pressed and I found this mode annoying and clearly this is for display purposes and not everyday play. When in the on position the first press of the heart activates the light show, red, blue, yellow and white lights in the heart fade on and off and the design projects these against the wall or ceiling Peppa is pointed towards. The light show lasts about 20 minutes before turning itself off. Pressing the heart again starts Peppa singing twinkle, twinkle, little star. The voice does sound like the tv character and so is familiar to little ones. Both mine enjoy listening to Peppa sing but don't as yet seem keen on the lightshow in a dark room preferring their night light at bedtime. Keeping Peppa clean The plastic heart can be wiped clean. The soft toy is surface clean only and the label gives you instructions on how to clean Peppa for best results. I haven't needed to clean ours yet as both are still looking good after a couple of months play. Price and availability This Peppa Pig Lullaby toy is available from Argos and Amazon currently (December 2012) costing £19.97, I do feel this is on the expensive side and I wouldn't have paid this much myself. It also requires 3 x AAA batteries which were included. Would I recommend? Yes, this Peppa Pig makes a lovely gift for little fans of Peppa. If used at night you may well hear Twinkle, twinkle, little star as the toy is easy to activate. My girls enjoy hearing Peppa singing to them and watching the lights on her tummy twinkle.
At a Glance Press Peppa's heart shaped dome on the front of her tummy and it will play 'twinkle twinkle little star'. Peppa will also create gentle starlight that will reflect on the ceiling and gently fade away after 20 minutes. Features and benefits for Peppa Pig Bedtime Peppa Requires 3 x AAA batteries
