A nice toy but there are better things baby can learn than hitting stuff with a hammer

My son was given this toy as a present on his first Christmas when he was 6 months old. It is a lovely looking toy that is brightly coloured. The toy is currently retailing on Amazon for £12.79 with free delivery (July 2012). The toy is suitable from 6 months upwards.

The toy consists of a classic hammering bench and a hammer, which are all made out of durable and sustainable rubberwood. The hammer has a red handle and a natural finish head which is strong but fairly light to pick up. The hammer bench base also has a natural finish, with each of the legs being a different primary colour. The pegs are fairly large and are held in the hammering base by holes with rubber bit in, there are 6 pegs in total, each one being a different primary colour.

The chunky pegs and hammer are easy to grasp and the toy encourages hand and eye co-ordination, as well as developing manual dexterity.

When my son first started playing with this toy is was around 10 months old, he was mainly interested in the hammer, and was not strong enough to hammer the pegs through to the other side of the hammering bench, as he grew he used to push the pegs through the hammering bench with his hands and was able to put the pegs back and repeat the whole process. The toy, in our house had a limited life span as by the time my son discovered what the hammer was supposed to do he was more interested in bashing things that hitting the pegs through the holes.

Overall the toy is well made, looks great and does encourage babies to hold things and it also encourages them to learn their colours and improve their overall hand and eye coordination. I will give the toy 3 stars overall as it has a limited life span and there are cheaper, just as effective similar products on the market.

Great toy for your budding bob /wendy

I had been looking for a hammer bench for my sons 1st birthday and i finally decided on this Pintoy one.

I am a big fan of Pin toy with the high quality rubber wood(that is sustainable) and bright colours , all their toys are brilliant and this bench is no exception .

It consists of 6 brightly coloured pegs and 1 hammer .

The pegs are hammered through to the other side then the toy is simply flipped over to hammer through the opposite side.
The pegs are held in by rubber seals but can be removed and replaced easily by an adult but quite tricky for a child so that is good .

A great toy for improving your childs co ordination skills and hammering out a bit of that excess energy they seem to have!

The toy states suitable for 18 months , my son has just started using it at 14 months and is fine , the pieces are not small or anything but if given to a child too young they could hurt themselves (and parents ) with the wooden hammer.

The pegs are a lot chunkier than other benches I have looked at meaning a bigger area to hit and this bench feels a whole lot better in terms of quality , if you are looking for a hammer bench I strongly recommend this one.

You can get this from amazon for around £8 but it has a 2 week shipping time , other stores selling pintoy products charge around £11 for this item.

A sturdy six peg hammer bench. The pegs are held in holes with gaskets. When the pegs have been hammered flat on the bench, turn it over and repeat the performance. The rubberwood used is from a sustainable plantation, which is grown primarily for latex production. Pintoys are designed for their beauty, educational value, enjoyment, durability and safety.
