My daughter absolutely loves water and loves bath time and swimming, although she does not like to get out and protests loudly. One of the first bath toys we got for her was the Summer Infant Bath Time Bubble Maker. It can be brought from Amazon for around £12. The Bath Time Bubble Maker is an almost oval shaped blue and white unit with an open front panel where the yellow bubble arms rotate dipping into the bubble mix below to create bubbles. It has a blue/on off button on the front. To fill with bubble mix you simply pour it into the bottom of the open window at the front. You do need rather a lot, as the rotating arms need to dip into it. We have found we end up having to dip quite a lot of excess bubble mix away at the end of bath time, especially as we use it infrequently. It is very easy to attach to the side of the bath with the sucker and can be used in either a standard or baby bath. I would suggest you put this reasonably high above the water as it does not cope very well if it gets wet, and when this happened to us it took days to dry out before it would work again. We have only ever used this in our normal bath and due to the sheer power that the bubbles are created and expelled I would not use this in a small baby bath. The first time we used this we were really startled by the sheer power that they are created and the volume and so in my opinion you really need the space provided in your normal bath. We also make sure it is at the opposite end from our daughter as if not she tends to end up with bubbles in her eyes which stings. Given this is for use for young babies and children I think it would be better if the arms rotated more slowly thereby creating bubbles with somewhat less force as you can quickly become overcome by the sheer volume especially if like us your bathroom is tiny so were tend to turn it off after only a few minutes. This is suitable from birth however after the first use when my daughter was around 3 months old, and discovering the power the bubbles are created and the sheer volume of bubbles we then waited until she was around 6 months old before using again. Especially as the unit is extremely noisy and used to startle her. (Think along the lines of a plane taking off!). My daughter does enjoy playing with this in her bath and trying to catch the bubbles but I feel this is more suited to older babies than newborns. I would not recommend this as I feel that it a bath toy should cope well with being wet (it has NEVER been submerged) and ours took days to dry out when we had it too low and it got a bit wet when splashed. We did have our doubts as to whether it would work again and I think we got quite lucky and I would expect more from a toy designed to be around water with young children. I also feel that it would be a better toy if the bubble arms rotated a little more slowly as we tend to get very quickly overcome by bubbles and if it was quieter as it is very noisy when in use. Overall I think this toy is an excellent idea that could have been better executed with a little more thought and a few minor changes. This review also appears on CIAO under the same username.
