Advantages: A lovely looking toy, cheerful, you'll get your money's worth as Po will last for a long time
Disadvantages: Rather dull once your child reaches a certain age
I write this review as somewhat of a reminiscence as at two years and three months my granddaughter has decided she is a little too sophisticated for Teletubbies. In fact I am sitting with Po at the moment awaiting the arrival of my niece so I can pass the toy on to her little nine month old son who has recently discovered them.
There are a plethora of different Teletubbies available, this one is a largish Po who speaks and plays the Teletubbies theme tune when you press her hand. She's very soft and cuddly and was my granddaughter's very favourite toy for a long time, although sadly it is now too babyish and uninteresting for such a big girl!
I understand completely why she now thinks it's boring, the 'talking' aspect of Po is simply 'eh-oh' (hello) and 'ahhh' when you press her tummy. Her tummy lights up and changes colour in a gentle and very pleasant way and when my granddaughter was smaller she enjoyed watching this, and when she was a little bigger she would name the colours as they faded in and out.
The recommended age is 12 months and above for this toy, I'm not sure why that is as there are no small or loose parts for baby to injure herself on. I assume it's due to the bulky size of Po and perhaps the fact that a younger baby would not be able to activate the speech or music in the toy and they would find this frustrating. My granddaughter actually received this for Christmas along with the matching Laa-Laa when she was just six months old and she has adored it from day one.
When she was smaller she would get rather annoyed at the music because she simply couldn't get a good enough grip on Po's hand to get it going - and then the tune lasts for such a long time that we adults got annoyed once she'd started it playing as it does have the ability to get itself inside your brain and stop all rational thought!
Overall it's a beautiful toy and I shall be sad to see it leave my granddaughter's toy box. It's going to a very good home with my niece but I think once your little one gets too big for Teletubbies then you are saying a goodbye to their baby years, which is always very sad. I would imagine should your child be a more die hard Teletubbies fan (my granddaughter was, and still is, more of an IgglePiggle girl!) this talking Po may have a longer life span - although almost two years is surely very good considering the attention span of babies and toddlers!
Summary: One quarter of the Teletubbies, my granddaughter has them all but I shan't bore you with 4 reviews!
