Advantages: Soft and cuddly, moving tummy feature attracts toddlers attention
Disadvantages: Repetitive, its song will start to grate on you, price
So on Christmas morning, Harry tore open his present to see his lovely big purple Teletubby staring up at him, causing him to exclaim "Tinky!" with a huge smile on his face! He then proceeded to play with it all day, and I think it was probably his favourite present he received. Even now, 7 weeks after Christmas he still adores his Tinky and loves to take it everywhere, playing its song over and over.
So what is a Teletubby Teletummy? It is a new toy produced by Tomy for a new generation of Teletubbies fan. You can buy one of these for each of the Teletubbies; Tinky Winky (Harry's one), Dipsy the Green one, Laa Laa the yellow one and Po the red one. Each one does the same thing so its just your childs preference which dictates which one you buy! These Teletubbies have a light-up aerial, a moving TV screen in their tummy and it also plays a tune.
The Teletubby is lovely and soft, with really vivid colours which stand out amongst other children's toys on the market. It has almost a velvety feel to it, and is soft enough for your baby to cuddle up to. The face is hard plastic although it can be squeezed and made to move so it isn't too rigid. The bottom of the feet are a soft cord material, and the hands are also soft cotton. It is really baby friendly and nice to cuddle up to. On the back, there is a velcro patch which is where the noise box is. On this there is also an on/off switch so you can kill your Teletubby for a while if you so wish. Also, here is where you change the batteries. The panel does require a screwdriver to open so bear that in mind. The tubby takes 3 AAA batteries. We haven't needed to replace the ones on Harry's yet so it isn't too consuming on the batteries. This patch is well concealed and Harry hasn't found it yet,so it is well designed on that front.
Each Teletubby is just over 38cm in height, so it isn't too big for your toddler to carry around with him. In order to get the Teletubby to play his or her song, you have to squeeze their left hand. There is a little button there which when presses sets of the Teletubby singing his song which is a musical version of the Teletubbies show theme tune. When Tinky Winky starts singing, his aerial lights up too! In Tinky Winky's triangular aerial, there are 3 lights which are red in colour and show through the purple material of the aerial. These randomly flash when the song is playing.
The other major feature of this Teletubby is the moving TV screen in the tummy. When the tune starts playing, the TV picture starts moving. The screen size is 8cm by 7cm, so it is a nice viewable size for your todder, and nicely fills the stomach part of the Teletubby. The pictures in the screen is a long loop of Teletubbies playing in Teletubbyland and having fun. Each tubby is pictured several times over on the loop so your little one can keep an eye out for their favourite! Harry delights in pointing them all out to us when they appear bless him.
The song itself lasts just over 30 seconds which isn't too bad but when you've heard it over 300 times it does get a little repetitive! Harry however, never seems to tire of it and I think could probably listen to it on a 24 hour repeat basis. It is possible to stop the Teletubby mid-song by simply pressing his hand again, this shuts down the music, TV and aerial lights instantly, handy if you set it if off accidentally and you just want it to shut up!
You can get these Teletubbys in Woolworths, Toys R Us, and Boots for the price of about £24.99. It isn't cheap so is definitely something to get yor child for their birthday or Christmas but it is worth every penny for the enjoyment it has brought Harry. He loves hearing it play its song, loves giving it a cuddle and just loves it in general! This is definitely worth considering if you have a Teletubby fan in your house!
Thank you for reading!
