Tesco Instrument Set
Advantages: great for the kids to make their own music
Disadvantages: none unless you count the noise!?!
My daughter received the little steps instrument set for Christmas when she had just turned one year old. I hadn't previously seen this for sale and to be honest an instrument set wasn't something i had actually thought of buying her at such a young age. However it turned out to be quite a good present and she enjoyed playing with it immensly.
So what do you get in the little steps instrument set? The "box" that it all comes in is kind of hourglass shaped and this doubles up as a drum, inside the box there is a pair of drumsticks, a xylophone, maracas, a clacker and a tambourine. All of the instruments are brightly coloured and contain all the primary colours which i love, the drum is bright yellow on one side and green on the other with a red base and blue lid. Also the little tambourine has a cute face on it to make it that little bit more appealing to the child. The intruments are all a really good size so it is easy for children of all ages to play and the drum can even be played by hand as it makes a different but just as good sound as when using the drumsticks! The range of the instruments i think is great and all that is needed for your little bundle of joy to make some very loud music!!
The receommended age for this set is 18 months+ which is a good guide, but as i say my daughter had it from one year and she was able to play with it from then on, there are no small objects other than the drumsticks (which aren't small but are thin) so i think with adult supervision this toy can be used from a younger age. The current price of this is £7.00 which i think is a good price for what you get (and to make it better you get double clubcard points too!!) Eighteen months down the line it is all still is good condition which is great as my daughter isn't the most gentle child at times, so i think this is testament to the quality of this set of instruments as being Tesco's own i maybe thought the quality could be a little substandard.
I think it is a fantastic thing to buy as it encourages play with others to make a range of music as well as developing the childs musical skills. The only thing we have added to the set is a recorder as my daughter enjoyed playing with one so i thought i would add that to it to just give that extra little aspect of music. I like seeing my daughter play with this, especially when she says she is Lady Gaga playing the music and singing Bad Romance!!!
All in all a great buy from Tesco!
Summary: A good buy
