Advantages: colourful, lots of bricks
Disadvantages: can be unstable
When my son was not taking a lot of interest in his walker to aid his walking (plenty in the toys on it but not to actually push it!) I decided to try another approach. Knowing how much my son loved wooden blocks and stacking things, I felt a wooden trolley filled with bricks might encourage him. I also liked the fact that this is quite a traditional toy and is made of wood - it is nice for him to have a variety of different textured toys in his collection.
We purchased this with Clubcard vouchers so it was a lovely bargain for us! I can't exactly remember how much this cost (we purchased around a year ago) but I think it was somewhere around the £15-£20 mark. I can't see a price online at the time of writing as I think the item is currently out of stock. The item is flat packed on purchase so you have to assemble when you get home. However, this is not difficult or time consuming and really just consists of attaching and securing the handle to the trolley cart.
The trolley and blocks are made of a solid, smooth wood that seems of decent quality. The cart is a bright green colour and the blocks have a range of bright colours too - reds, yellow, orange, blue and green so it is stimulating to the child and also can be used to aid colour recognition. The blocks also come in different shapes and sizes which challenges your child when stacking and also helps them to learn shapes and words like 'bigger' and 'smaller'. The blocks fit neatly in the trolley but, with all the different shapes and sizes this can take some time to put them away neatly!
The trolley is easily wheeled and pushes easily. It is quite sturdy when weighted with the bricks but I would not let your child use this when they are at the 'pulling' up stage, particularly if no bricks are contained as it topples very easily. The colour on the bricks is great, it has not chipped or scratched despite a lot of use (and a lot of tumbling onto wooden floors). The bricks have dented in various places but this is not overly noticeable nor does it detract from the toy.
As it turned out, my son didn't really take much interest in pushing this toy as he learned to walk either. I am still glad that we bought it though as he loved to help himself to the bricks from the trolley and stack with them. As he got older and was walking confidently, he loved to push this about. Now, at 20 months he still loves pushing this around the house and happily fills it with all his toys to transport them in. Overall, this is a well made toy that my son loves and has gained a lot from. It has good longevity too, so is great value for money.
Summary: decent
