“ Brand: Thomas and Friends / Age: 2+ / Type: Cars & Vehicles „
20 kg - 40 lb weight limit.
My son got this for his 2nd birthday. I bought it on special for £49.99, and I must say he had a grand time with it the first day. The train itself is lovely, but very small, with the seat approximately 12" off the ground. It also comes with a small carriage as well which does add to the fun as he quite enjoyed putting toys into this to take along for a ride. Also included is 22 pieces of brightly coloured track.
It is Thomas, and what little boy doesn't love Thomas?
The children can ride on their very own electric train set.
The track is very easy to set up, and stays set up.
You can make a larger or smaller track by adding or removing pieces, which meant I could set this up in the living room.
It is quite smooth with no jerking movements which means my 2 year old can dance on the seat or stand on one foot, but for a one year old would make falls very unlikely.
It plays the Thomas song and makes a toot toot sound
The train is very very slow even with a full charge. My son got impatient at times and would use his feet to speed it up, or stand up and dance on the seat.
It will not work well on grass, even freshly cut.
The train can go a little bit on pavement, without steering, but basically lacks the power to get moving without the track.
A full nights charge gets about 1 hour of use. Battery is estimated to last 200 charges, so basically expect to only be able to get 200 hours before buying a new battery, and it may well not make it that long.
My sons' opinions: I did let the 5 year old have a go too, as he is thin and just at the weight level allowed. He liked it a few times but was quickly bored. My 2 year old spent all day on it, but has only used it for a few minutes here and there since. He loves trains, and does seem to like though.
My opinion: This would have been better if I had bought this when he was 10 -12 months old and he could have gotten a great deal more use. I am also very disappointed not to be able to use it in the garden, as my front room isn't big enough for the full set of track. Overall I am disappointed to have spent £50 for it, I would be sick if I had spent £100.
Still, the child does enjoy it, and obviously the problems are partly just because he is too old for it at 2. I am giving it 4 stars, i would have given it 5 if it had been advertised as suitable for ages 1-2 which would have been more accurate than 1-3 in my opinion.
