Advantages: Looks cute, fun for a little while

Disadvantages: Eats batteries, annoying voice, limited fun

I got Elmo for Valentines Day last year. A bit of a change to chocolates and flowers, but it was a sweet present! I opened up the box, and luckily there was 6 batteries included, he is a real battery guzzler! Elmo takes all 6 AA batteries. 4 in his left foot and 2 in his right foot.

As I opened the box and gave him a hug, Elmo is not quite as cuddly as I would like him to be! I understand that this is because he has all of his mechanical things inside him, but he looks so cute you do kind of want to pick him up and give him a cuddle! Elmo is about 40cm tall and is covered in red fur. He has a big smiley mouth and two large plastic eyes on top of his head.

There are three different places where you can 'tickle' Elmo; his chin, his tummy or his foot. 'Tickling' basically means pushing a button. For Elmo to work properly, you have to place him standing on the floor. When you tickle him for the first time, he starts vibrating and laughing and saying 'You've tickled Elmo!", he slaps his arms against his side and falls of his back and stands up again. He will then shout "Again, again" at you. Once you tickle him for a second time, his routine changes slightly. He still vibrates and laughs but this time he rolls onto his back and then his side and says "Give Elmo a break please!" The third time he goes all out rolling around the floor and kicking his legs and laughing uncontrollably. He also says some other things but I can't quite make them out since he is laughing so much. These are the three 'routines' that he can do. Once he has done all three and you tickle him again, he will start with the first one again.

If you don't tickle him again right after, he will stand there shouting 'Again, again' for a while until you tickle him.. or turn him off. His voice gets very annoying. Elmo has a little 'on/off' switch on his right foot so that you can turn him off to save batteries and to stop him talking.

If you are planning to use Elmo a lot I would recommend getting rechargeable batteries since I think it could get quite expensive. I don't remember how long the batteries we had in Elmo lasted, but I don't think it was very long. My advice would be remembering to turn him off in between plays!

I do think it is a really clever toy. I find it amazing that they have made this toy which can fall over, roll around and stand up again all by itself.. it is just a very clever toy that has limited amounts of fun attached to it.

When Elmo falls over laughing on to the floor, he does tend to pick up quite a lot of dust! The unfortunate thing about that is that you can't actual remove his outer layer of fluff to wash, so you simply have to brush it down, which doesn't always do the job.

Elmo seems quite fun.. but it wears off pretty quickly. There's only so many times you can watch him fall over laughing, and his voice gets really irritating really quickly. He mostly just sits in the corner of the room now, til a new guest notices him, plays with him for a little bit and the novelty wears off again. Oh well!

Elmo is suitable for ages 18 months and up. He is made by Fisher Price and is surface washable only.

I'm not entirely sure how much my boyfriend paid for Elmo, but I took a sneaky peak on Amazon and he's on there for £38.49, which seems a lot for what it is!

Summary: Fun for a little while but thats about it
