Advantages: Soft, cuddly, cute voice
Disadvantages: Makes you feel guilty if you don’t want to play
This big, red but very sweet, monster is another of the Sesame Street interactive toys. I think that he was first available 2 years ago and I managed to get him last year for half price as a new one was now on the market (Rock and Roll Elmo). Anyway, this Elmo certainly likes to be played with. You start off tickling him by pressing his tummy and he laughs and shakes. He then asks you to play with him some more by saying: · "Tickle Elmo" where you press his tummy again and he shakes and laughs as before. · "Toss Elmo" where you have to throw him up in the air or turn him upside down. He responds by laughing, shouting "wheeee" and if it all gets too much for him he says "Elmo’s dizzy" (which sounds *so* cute!) · "Bounce Elmo" which involves bouncing him up and down on your knee. He responds by shouting "Bouncy bouncy!" Other phrases that he shouts include "Higher, higher" for you to throw him up higher and "More, more" if he wants you to do it again. In fact, Elmo will happily play all night long if given the chance. If you put him down and leave him alone he asks you to "Tickle Elmo", "Toss Elmo" or "Bounce Elmo." He usually goes through these about three times, realises you don’t love him and shuts himself off. But all is forgiven the next time you pick him up to tickle and play with him. Elmo is a very soft and cuddly toy and unlike some Sesame Street interactive toys, his eyes aren’t made of hard plastic and thus is suitable for younger children. He comes dressed in a yellow and blue shirt with Elmo written on the front (just in case he gets too dizzy and forgets who he is!!) He is one of the largest Sesame Street toys around as he is about 20 inches/50 cm (okay, these are the exact measurements as I got out my trusty measuring tape and measured him es
pecially for this review!!) He is also quite chunky and cuddly and, like all of the toys in the range, is of very good quality. Elmo takes standard AA batteries which are replaceable but I have had mine for 9 months and the originals are still going strong, albeit his voice is a little quieter. This is a brilliant toy for all children of any age but would be most suited to those of at least 3 or 4 years old who would be able to understand what to do when he asks them to play with him. But hey, I’m a grown woman with no children and I bought him for me!! Now I must get back to my sweet little red monster - his is screaming at me to get off the ‘puter and go play!!
