Bought this from Mothercare before my first baby arrived as it seemed much larger than others available. I thought at around £30 it was quite expensive but I've had daily use out of it ever since. Lovely bright colours and a few 'activities' although these are limited. One section has a tiny squeaky bit but you have to really push it quite hard so my daughters could never really do this by themselves. One section has a rustling elephant ear that flaps out, and there's a mirror that is stuck on with velcro so can be used separately. These are all good for encouraging tummy time but never really held my daughters' attention for very long. You'd need more of a play gym with the activity arches for that, but this is more portable at least, and covers a lot of floor to protect carpets from baby spew etc. It isn't particularly thick, so with a wooden floor underneath it wouldn't protect a baby very well at all if they fell over when learning to sit up, for example. But nice with carpet under it. We've folded it up and taken it with us when we've stayed somewhere overnight, or just to visit friends or family (to protect their flooring really, with inevitable spills) and almost all of my friends had the same one when their babies arrived.
Mine has been in the washing machine tons of times and kept its shape and colour really well. My daughters have outgrown it now but I still use it to sit on when we're in the garden, like a picnic blanket.
I purchased this super play mat when my son was around 6 months, he originally had the fisher price rainforest play mat but had outgrown it, I wanted the play mat to make him a large play area in our lounge. I purchased the mat online so wasn't sure what the quality of the mat would be like, when it arrived I was very pleasantly surprised by how thick and comfy the mat is, due to how thick the mat is it is still quite large even when folded!
The mat comprises of 12 large squares and sown in a typical patchwork quilt type of patter, the squares all brightly coloured making it attractive to baby, the squares have pictures of animals, plants, sun etc the great range of colours makes it suitable for either a boy or a girl. When the mat is out it very large, over double the size of regular play mat so baby has plenty of space to sit with toys and can roll around a lot without coming off the mat.
The mat has a few sensory areas which are a soft textured square, the elephants ear crackles, a squeaker in the fish pond square, a small teether in the shape of a leaf attached by a rope, a mirror which has a little stand so baby can look at its self when having a tummy time, below the mirror is a little velvety curl which babay can pull on and it springs back and finally it has a small plastic hoop which allows you to attach you own toys to the mat. When I purchased the mat I didn't realise it had all of these features so they were a nice surprise and my son had a great time exploring them all.
It has two handles, one on either side which I suppose are meant for you to carry the mat but I have never used them for that purpose but we did use them to attach toys on to!
Having a very sicky baby the mat was stuck through the wash at least once a week for around 5 months and still looks like brand new, I have really pleased with this mat and although my son no longer requires it as he is mobile we have packed it away to use next summer as it will make a fab mat to put on the lawn when he plays out.
