Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror
Advantages: Looks cute, mutli functional, brightly coloured, lots of fun
When my daughter was born, I was quite reserved when it came to buying her toys. As much as I loved the thought of having a new child and being able to buy things that I may not have bought my son, whether that was down to price or simply the toy wasn't around when he was small, I tried to keep things simple when she was smaller and go for toys that would stimulate her sight, touch and hearing. So I bought her this toy while shopping in Sainsburys for roughly £2.50, as there was a special offer on at the time.
Why did I buy it?
I originally was hooked by three things-the look, as the toy stood out, the make which is well known in regards to products for babies, toddlers and mothers and the price as it was discounted and very affordable.
What is this toy?
Its quite multi functional for such a little thing. It's a teether, rattle, and a general small toy suitable for babies from 0months.
How does it look?
This toy is circular in shape with two handles coming out of opposite sides. In the centre of the circle the toy is bright yellow and resembles a face, with a huge pink smile and rosy cheeks, round and quite large eyes where the pupils move around as they are made of small black balls and a protruding nose which is orange in colour and when pushed makes a squeaking noise. The face is 3.5 in diameter.
The handles are a pale green in colour with blue spots, which are slightly raised. They feel as if theyre made of some form of rubber as its quite smooth. The handles are fixed into the main body of this toy, but are hinged so can move slightly (only slightly ) from forward to back.
Around the edge of the face is a clear see through section 16 tiny balls in total, 8 balls around the top and 8 around the bottom, that move around and make a rattle noise when the toy is shaken or simply moved. The balls are yellow, green and blue in colour.
If you turn the toy over and look at the back of it, the smiley face is replaced with a mirror. Slightly distorted in the view it gives because if you look directly into it your facial proportions aren't completely true to life but very close to it ( unless my face has gone a bit weird looking! ). The mirror is 3.5 in diameter.
Toy overall is 7 inches wide ( including the handles ) and 4.5 inches in height.
Made of plastic.
So what do we think?
When I first bought this toy my daughter wasn't very interested in it, but her brother at the time was! She has played with it, and its took her abit of time to get into it and she liked it. Honestly? She probably likes it more now than when she was a baby! Originally, it grabbed her attention because of how it looked and the fact it made a noise when she shook it around. Now-she loves staring at herself in the mirror section ( vain much? ), and pushing its nose in so it makes a sound.
When she was a baby, it was one of those toys that was very easy for her to hold, especially with having two handles on either side. Babies like to dribble, be sick, wipe food on things, generally be a little messy, so thank goodness this is a toy that's easy to clean and very wipeable.
What do I think? It's a very well made toy. Its lightweight, so perfect for you babies to hold, its tactile and fun to touch and its robust in how its made. Very good quality. Brightly coloured so eye catching for the child, very cute to look at, and easy to travel with you because of its size. Can be thrown in a changing bag or in the pram, takes up very little room. I think its great it covers quite afew of the different senses for a child-touch, hear and sight, even a alittle into taste because of the teething aspect.
My daughter never used this to help with her teething, in fact neither of my children had teething rings or anything like that, so cant comment on that side of the toy, but its simple in look and use but works a treat.
Would I buy this again? Yes I would. The price I originally paid for this toy I felt was very good. Its still something that's being sold today in a lot of places such as supermarkets for roughly £4.60. I wouldn't be so enticed to purchase this at full price honestly. But its well made, despite the fact this is 2 years old, the colours are still bright and fresh, I see no visible markings or scratches on it and all the elements still work. Its easy to use and fun to look at, and its made by a well known brand with a great reputation for baby related products.
Summary: Great toy for babies
