Advantages: Fun for young children, stimulates young brains, saved my russian dolls from destuction

Disadvantages: Wish there were more Teletubbies! Slots together rather than fixes together

I decided to buy the Tomy Hide Inside Teletubbies for my daughter last christmas. My reasoning behind this purchase was because I love russian dolls and have a few of them around the house. Sadly my little one also took a liking to them and decided to pull them apart and play with them at every given opportunity. To save my russian dolls from being destroyed I sought help from Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po...

The teletubbies are packaged inside a (suprisingly large) box with a transparent plastic front. Rather than having them ready stacked, they are seperate. To a passer by the teletubbies might just look like figures, it's not until you look at the box a little closer that you realise they are infact hide inside Teletubbies.

The Teletubby toys are in order of size, just like the programme. The biggest Teletubby is a purple Tinky Winky. There is a slightly smaller green Dipsy (which sits inside Tinky Winky) and a smaller yellow Laa Laa (which sits inside Dipsy). The smallest toy is a red Po which is the very last Teletubby and sits inside Laa Laa. Po is actually a weeble (an almost ball like toy which balances itself) which the other Teletubbies aren't and because of this always seems to be the favourite!

The teletubbies come apart easily and are put back into position easy enough. The bottoms of Tinky Winky, Dipsy and Laa Laa are flat so it's easier to stand them up and stack them. They are made of durable plastic and are easy for little fingers to play with. All of the Teletubbies antennas (on their heads) are made of a strange paper-like plastic material - this allows the antennas to fold down when hiding inside and gives the child something to grip on to.

These sort of toys, like russian dolls, just seem to really interest and stimulate childrens brains. I'm not sure why but I remember also being really interested in them as a child. They are also very useful for encouraging children to problem solve and of course to learn colours!

This would really please a young Teletubby fan but I wouldn't say it's essential to watch or even know what Teletubbies are, this little toy will amuse them regardless. It's also totally unisex.

The toy is designed for children as young as 6 months but my daughter was 20 months old when she got it and loved it. My guess is that they would be fun for children upto around 3 years of age (after that she'll be fed up of the Teletubbies and will want my dolls again, boo hoo!).

One of the downsides to this toy is that there are only four teletubbies. Five or six might have been more fun but I don't suppose they could have just thrown in a couple of random Teletubbies just for the sake of this toy! The second downside is that the two halves of the Teletubbies just sit on top of each other rather than fix together, so it can't just be picked up as one doll (you have to carefully pick it up from the bottom to do that) - however I do understand that it is constructed in this way to be easy for very young children.

The Hide Inside Teletubbies cost around £10 which I don't think is too bad at all, but you might able to get it cheaper if you shop around.

Overall quite a simple but fun toy that has saved me a fortune in russian dolls for the time being!

Summary: Tubbytastic.
