Tomy Hide 'n' Squeak Eggs
Advantages: Learn colours, shapes, expressions, great price
Disadvantages: Box is difficult to open
My daughter was bought these eggs for her first birthday, they were purchased from Tesco and were about £10 at the time however I have just looked them up on Amazon for this review and they are selling at £5.80 which I think is a fantastic price. The eggs can be bought from many places such as Toys r us, Tesco, Asda and online, the eggs are created by Tomy which is a leading name in childrens toys.
The egg box came packaged in a brightly coloured cardboard box with waves of bright yellow across the top and bottom and showing a young child enjoying playing with the eggs, the box certainly draws in the eye.
Inside the box there was a bright yellow plastic egg box made of strong plastic, on top of the box there are some raised areas which spells out Tomy and has a couple of egg shapes to one side and then a little chick to the other side. On the underneath of the egg box there are 6 circular moulds where the eggs sit and then there is a different shape on the bottom of each one there is a star, a triangle, a heart, a circle, a cross and a square.
On opening the box there are 6 white eggs sat inside and each one is split into two pieces, on the top of the eggs there are little faces drawn in six different colours green, yellow, bright pink, purple, blue and orange. Each of the faces on the eggs are of a different expression and they look quite cute all sat in the box together. On opening the eggs there is a little chick inside each one in the same colours as the faces on the egg shells, the egg lids are interchangeable though so after my daughter has played with them the colours generally no longer match. Each chick has a beak, two cheeks and two wings marked in the plastic and some eyes drawn on in one of the other five colours available, each set of eyes is different. When you press the chick down into its shell it will squeak and my daughter loves banging these off the floor to get the squeak, she hasn't realised she doesn't have to violent with them for the noise yet.
On the bottom of each egg there is a purtrusion of hard plastic and each one is one of the six shapes that show at the bottom of the egg box, your child needs to put the eggs into the correct slots and the correct way for ones such as the triangle and the star otherwise the eggs won't fit into the box and gthe lid cannot be closed.
The egg box is pretty difficult to open so my daughter is unable to start to play with this toy without having any help and even my four year old daughter struggles to open it for her. My daughter loves playing with these eggs and will sit for ages just moving the lids from one egg to another and back again, she finds the squeak funny and if you sqeak them really fast for her she giggles like mad. We have been using these eggs to point out colours and shapes to her even though she is only 15 months and not paying much attention yet I am working on the idea if she hears them enough the information will start sinking in without her realising. My daughter is too young to manage to put the eggs in the correct shapes in the box so I have to correct it all when she has finished playing but I don't mind as she enjoys them so much. The eggs are very hardwearing and none of the faces have rubbed off in nearly 4 months so I would say they are durable, for the price I think this is a brilliant little set and although I thought my daughter would have got bored of these pretty quickly she plays with them nearly every day.
Summary: A hit with my daughter
