Tomy mega sketcher I have a large one of these in the classroom ,it is one of my autistic pupils favourite toys. The one I have in the classroom is an old model thwe new one is a different colour it is a very robust toy , has to be in my classroom . as it regularily gets dropped or thrown around(a lot of my children have behavior problems What is a mega sketcher ? Well it is a magnetic drawing board measuring about 45cm by 25cm. The board is filled with iron filling. This board has a slider on one edge that slides up and down to clear the picture. ). The mega sketcher comes with a “pen” with a metal nib and some shapes, a star, a circle a heart and a car. This pen and the shapes attract the iron filings. I f you place the star on the transparent covering which is over the surface of the “drawing” board it attracts the iron filings into a star shape The pen is used as a normal pen and you draw/ trace a picture on the transparent covering on the drawing board it and makes a picture with the iron filings that are attracted to the pen. Words can be written with this pen or pictures drawn. When the pictures are drawn and a child decides to draw a new picture the slider is pushed and the drawing board cleared. I would recommend this toy for a child aged 3 and upwards as it will encourage drawing /writing skills with out using lots of paper. I think this is an excellent toy. The one I have is a large one but tomy also make notepad sized owned ideal for amusing children in the back of the car, perfect for taking on holiday. Tomy make this board in a Thomas tank engine shape to try and attract more buyers this sells for£ 17 –18, There is also a winnie the pooh one for £22.99 this one has a pull out drawer for storing the pen and shapes the standard one sells for about £14 the note book size costs about £5. WWW.mailorderexpress stocks these. This toy will keep some children amused for hours. It will encour
age pencil skills and help them fire their imagination, Thanks for reading, enjoy playing with your children

- 15/11/03 Might get one for my class Mary - I've got to spend my budget by christmas so looking around for some good stuff. I want to get a 'leappad' - I had one at my last place and think it will be good for SEN too. Have you got one? If so, how do the autistic children find it? I don't want it to be too addictive.
