Tomy Pull Along Ducks
Advantages: Unisex, simple and easy to use
Disadvantages: May not hold interest for too long
It was in October last year that my daughter was given the Tomy Quack Along Ducks. They were given by a friend as a gift for her first birthday.
This product is currently available from Amazon at just £7.82, though do look closely as it is listed a number of times on Amazon at various prices with the highest priced listing at £12.99. I have also spotted this delightful toy on the shelves of Home Bargains and although I cannot remember the exact price, they are usually very competitive in relation to a lot of other stores.
Tomy state that this toy is suitable for ages 10 months and upward. There are certainly no obvious small parts or sharp edges. Batteries are included and there is no assembly necessary.
The Tomy Quack Along Ducks consist of three ducks, mummy duck leading the way at the front and two baby ducks waddling behind. The colours are bright yet not in any way garish. They are predominantly yellow, blue green and orange. I can only presume that the picture which represents the product on this review is a little out of date as the colouring is now entirely different.
The ducks are all joined together by a blue thick rubber strip, the edges of which have a wavy shape which I presume is to depict water.
Mummy duck has a string attached to her base and a power switch at the back of her head. A rather catchy quacking tune is activated when the string is tugged. It took me a while to figure this out initially, despite my daughter being able to activate the sound effortless while I was searching for buttons. The string is a good size to allow a small child to hold onto it while standing.
Each duck has orange wheels at the bottom. The axels joining the wheels are slightly bent, giving them a waddling motion when pulled along.
It certainly feels very strong with no loose parts. It has not withstood any damage so far from two active toddlers.
This is a great unisex toy, accessible and appealing to little girls and boys alike.
It encourages hand eye co-ordination and is also ideal for those babies who have just found their feet and are learning to toddle. However it can of course easily be enjoyed by a sitting baby too.
My daughter initially had lots of interest in this toy and was soon taking it for walks around the living room. She has however moved her attention onto other toys since Christmas and it has mostly stayed in the toy box.
In summary the Tomy Quack Along Ducks are very reasonably priced. The concept is rather simple yet it is effective and enjoyable. The toy itself is attractive and sturdy and the sound it emits is very pleasant. For all of its qualities I would recommend this toy as a lovely gift for a young boy or girl around the age of one year old.
Summary: An endearing little toy, suitable for girls and boys alike.
