would be a great toy if quiter

This toy is part of an array of a choice of toys from Thomas the tank engine series.

The train is quite large; it is 23cm long and 18 cm high. It is in the traditional Thomas colours and the numbers on the side are stickers that can be scarped off. The back of the engine has a control panel with four switches. The first rings a bell which operates whether or not it is switched on. There is a whistle that only works when engine is turned on.
The engine is operated by an on /off switch and there is a lever that twists that changes the speed from low to high. The last feature on the control panel is a fire that is hidden under a flap when lifted shows flame effect coal fire which is quite effective. It takes two D size batteries.
I bought my son this as he loves Thomas the tank engine. He isn't bothered with the TV program but loves the toys.
This toy is very noisy and doesn't really sound like a steam train more a droning noise that drives me mad. It doesn't go great on a carpet is much laminate floor. The two speeds my son can generally operate but his favourite feature is the coal burning and loves watching the flickering flames.
This toy had been without batteries for a while as the noise drives me mad and my son leaves it droning away once he has finished playing with it. Even without batteries he enjoyed pushing it around the floor. Guilt made me replace the batteries.
I would recommend this toy as one for a Thomas fan but to keep at the mother in laws house
