      A very cute hungry caterpillar

I am a big fan of the Very Hungry Caterpillar book and I remember it as a favourite from my childhood. When I was pregnant I got quite carried away buying clothes and toys with the Eric Carle design. My husband's cousin spotted my obsession and very kindly bought my son the Very Hungry Caterpillar ring rattle when he was born.

      - The Caterpillar -
The rattle consists of a transparent hollow plastic ring that contains eight coloured plastic balls. These rattle around when the toy is shaken. Attached to the ring by two colourful loops of material is a cute soft Very Hungry Caterpillar. He is approximately 20cm in length. His body is made of seven sections of green soft, squidgy material while his head is made from a red velvety material. He has two big green and yellow stitched eyes, a little green stitched nose and two purple felt antennae on top of his head. He looks just like the character from the book. Overall the toy looks very good quality, cute, colourful, fun and appealing to babies. I really like that the caterpillar design is true to the book.

      - Playing With the Caterpillar -
When my son was about six weeks old he began to take an interest in his surroundings. We would put his harm through the ring of the caterpillar so that when he moved he would see and hear the rattle. My son really liked this. By three month my son was able to hold this toy himself and learnt to rattle it on his own which he got a lot of enjoyment from. This toy is quite easy for little hands to grab onto. He also liked sucking on the antennae. By about six months my son had moved onto bigger, more exciting toys so has rarely been played with since then but I would say we got a good four month of use. I think this is a lovely toy and my son certainly liked it too. My only criticism would be that it is perhaps not as stimulating as some of our other similar toys, it is just a very simple rattle. I think the effort has gone into making it look really good rather than having lots of different grooves and textures for baby to touch or rubber for baby to chew on.

      - Cleaning -
Our Caterpillar really hasn't got very dirty and still looks brand new but I have given it the occasional wipe down with a wet cloth.

      - Price and Availability -
I'm not sure where our caterpillar was purchased but I can see it sells for £7.99 on Amazon. I would say you are paying for the design with this one as there are plenty of more stimulating rattles available at this price or cheaper. Having said that the design is very cute, the toy is well made and my son did really like it so it probably isn't too bad a price.

      - Would I Recommend? -
I would recommend this rattle as I love the design and my son loved playing with it. I think it makes a lovely gift, especially for a Very Hungry Caterpillar fan. I only wish it was slightly more stimulating.
