~*~*~ Vtech Baby First Steps Walker ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is a nice push along that helps babies learn to walk. At the front there is an removable tray with a nice range of activities.
~ The Walker ~
The main body of this walker is bright yellow, underneath the removable tray the plastic has a large Vtech logo and picture. The handle and wheels are bright red and the back legs as blue. On the front of the walker at the bottom are three spinable rings coloured in purple, green and orange. The main activity tray clips into place on the front but can be removed by simply lifting a little blue lever at the top of the walker.
The activity part is very cute. This is is mainly white in colour but is covered with a bright range of activities.
At the bottom of the tray you will see five coloured keys -
Red - a - apple
Green - b - ball
Yellow - c - car
Blue - d - dog
Purple - e - elephant
These keys are made from a crystal like plastic that allows them to light up when pressed.
There is a yellow butterfly on the left, you can flip his wing over and this will get it singing.
Next to this is four buttons -
1 - Red heart
2 - Yellow circle
3 - Blue square
4 - Green triangle
Above this is a cog like system that is constructed of three cogs - Green with musical note patterns, this one also has a yellow handle, a purple one with a red spiral pattern and a blue one with orange curve patterns, this one has a finger hole. These cogs can also be pressed.
Coming down the right hand side you will find the little lime green telephone, this is placed on a red 'wood' like feature.
At the very top is a little orange dog button.
There is also the power/volume switch - On, loud, louder!
And there is also the handle.
I would recommend that this is attached to the walker when the walker is being used as without it the walker isn't very stable as the frame is really lightweight and liable to flip over, the play tray adds weight to it making it much sturdier for baby to push.
The puppy at the top when pressed brings a bit of a game to the walker. When pressed it will ask baby to do certain things like ' Puppy says clap your hands ' etc. It's really cute.
The butterfly acts as a way to change the modes of the unit. When the wing is closed the unit is in the a, b, c, 1, 2, 3 mode. In this mode the letters, shapes, colours and numbers are said. When the wing is opened it is in the musical mode, pressing buttons whilst in this mode will get the unit singing and playing little tunes.
This is my sons favourite bit, as he like to just (annoyingly) open and close the wings to hear a little tune.
~ Overall ~
I first bought one of these walkers for my first child some 10 - 11 years ago and I used it for my second son too. After he had finished with it I gave it to a friend. When I had my third son I bought another one of these walkers as I really like them, they are nice and bright and not only do they aid with walking but they are also a bit of fun too. I still have this walker but last Christmas I bought my son a Winnie the Pooh themed Vtech walker off ebay for £4. I thought it made a nice change but my son wasn't as taken with this one and wouldn't bother using it but when I got the other one out he happily played with it and used it for walking so I took the Pooh one to my mums and kept this one here.
My son has used this a lot. This I feel has given him the confidence to walk unaided but it's more than a walker as you have the fun element at the front.
The wheels are plastic so do tend to slip a bit on laminate floor, they don't turn either but my little one just drags it around to turn!
Like I have said it does need the activity unit attached to keep it sturdy but I do think it's nice that it is removable as this means that my son can use it whilst sitting on my lap or on the floor.
It's a nice well made, sturdy toy that will last from one child to the next.
Being made from a nice strong plastic it is easy to keep clean by wiping over with a soft cloth.
Thanks for reading :o) x
Summary: A great walker from Vtech.
