Advantages: number of features to occupy your child and help them learn
Disadvantages: annoying music
This is another educational yet fun toy from VTech. It is available in many toy shops and online, currently priced at around £16.99.
It is stated as being suitable from 9-36 months and has 2 main modes of play. It is a pull along toy, with 4 coloured balls (included) to 'feed' into the hole in the top. It has a number of songs and sound effects as well as a flashing light on the front.
The helicopter itself is made of the usual sturdy plastic that you see on many other childrens toys! It has a propeller on the top that you can spin round, which makes a clicking noise as you do and triggers a helicopter sound too (if switched on!!) There is a hole in the centre of the propeller where you can push the coloured balls (and anything else that fits!!) through. As each ball is pushed through it states either the colour of the ball or counts.
The sides of helicopter are open, allowing easy access to remove the balls from the inside. Along the bottom on one side are 3 piano keys that will play a note or help your child learn a,b,c, colours and animals and hear a selection of phrases depending upon the mode it is currently set to.
There is a dog pilot on the front of the helicopter which you can press to activate a song and the light just below the pilot on the front too. It is at the bottom at the front you will find the string to pull the helicopter along.
On the side of the helicopter with the piano keys, below the propeller you will find the off/mode sliding switch, so you can select off, music or learning mode. and 3 different 'object' buttons. The object buttons when pressed will activate tunes in music mode or phrases and sounds in learning mode.
This toy will aid with the learning of counting, colour identification and letters. It will also help to develop motor skills by pressing buttons, pushing the balls through the hole, moving the propeller and pulling the helicopter along. It also provides auditory and visual stimulation.
My son loves this he does little dances to the music it plays, the look on his face when he first managed to push a ball through was great!! He's now starting to walk round pulling his helicopter behind him!
