VTech Little Singing Alfie
Advantages: cute, fun, learning
Who could resist this gorgeous little bear? The Vtech singing Alfie bear is one of the first toys i ever bought my daughter having seen it in my local tesco i just couldn't resist his cute little face! Alfie is a little brown teddy with a big friendly smile on his face and a little red plastic "t-shirt" which houses the buttons that make the toy just come to life. There is a long strap on the top of the bears head which has velcro on so you can attach it to the pram or cot, or just a carry handle for baby.
The yellow heart button just under the bears chin is the on/off button and has a dark spot and sunshine which identifies this to the baby (when they are old enough to understand day and night of course.) There are three numbered buttons, the first is green with a number 1 and a picture of an apple on, the second one is yellow with a number 2 and a picture of two teddies on and the third is blue with a number 3 and a picture of a pillow zzz on.
When turned on the lights flash and the bear says "How are you? " and sings his little song " I'm a friendly light up bear, i'll teach you one, two, three, a sleepy hungry happy bear, hey come and hug me!!" There are several different things that happen when the buttons are pressed:
Green (Number 1) The first time this is pressed, he says nom nom (an eating kind of sound) i'm a hungry bear. The second time he says "One" and a single note is played. The third time it is pressed he says "How are you?" and a tune is played (each time it is a different nursery rhyme)
Yellow (Number 2) The first press makes the bear shout cheerfully "I'm a happy bear", as with the green button, when pressed a second time it says "Two" and two notes are played, the third press hears him say "I love you" and plays a nursery rhyme.
Blue (Number 3) Pressing this button for the first time hears Alfie yawn and says "I'm a sleepy bear", the next press hears the number "Three" and three notes played and finally the third press again hears "I love you" but this time with an added "MWAH" and a lullaby tune is played.
If baby doesn't press any of the buttons for a while Alfie will say I love you and blow a kiss, and if after another short while he will ask how you are and play his jingle again, and finally if there is still no action from baby he says bye-bye, blows a kiss and turns off. Alfie has the cutest little voice and i think that babies will really relate to it as it is kind of like baby talk whereas a lot of toys have a much older voice.
I really love this toy, my daughter enjoyed playing with Alfie from a very young age and sometimes still now she will play with him for a short while. The bear itself isn't really a cuddly bear due to the plastic front but that hasn't stopped my daughter from having plenty of cuddles with him and even taking him to bed - having once rolled onto him and turned it on which gave me a huge fright hearing that through the baby monitor!!!
The recommended age for this toy is 3 months - 18 months, and i think this is perfect as from that age baby will be attracted by the features of the bear and the flashing lights and after 18 months they are maybe too old for him, but saying that at two and a half my daughter won't part with him!! The price of the bear is £9.99 and for what you get i think this is a great price! Another cracking toy that i can't praise enough.
An adorable bear!
