Advantages: Lots of great features in a cuddly toy

Disadvantages: You can't tell at a glance if it's on or not

This toy the was the first of many VTech baby toys to enter our house. It was bought as a present for my twins at their first Christmas when they were 3 months old. Until this point all their toys had been suitable from birth soft toys so I was interested to see how they would respond to something more electronic. Moosical beads was soon to be become a very popular toy.

Cuddly Cow
The toy is a cuddly cow about 17.5cm in height with a plastic ring of features that goes through 2 of the cow's legs and is attached to the other 2. This makes it an ideal size for young babies and it used to sit nicely beside them when they were on their playmat or propped up on a pillow. As young babies like black and white a cow is a great animal to use for a first toy.
I think the recommended age of from 3 months is right mine weren't interested in much apart from milk and sleeping before this time. The upper age is 18 months although it still gets some attention from my toddlers at 20 months.
The cow has the following features
-Plastic beads
These can be moved backwards and forwards on the orange top half of the plastic ring, easy for little fingers to play with they are different shapes and have bobbles on them. Neither of my little ones have ever been particularly interested in them as there are more exciting things going on with this toy!
-Music and phrase buttons
The toy has 2 light up press buttons and a rotating one. Shaped as a circle, triangle and square they are really easy for baby to activate. All 3 buttons say the shape and colour they are as one of their phrases. The rotating square only has to be knocked slightly for baby to be rewarded with a phrase or nursery rhyme. It has a picture of a sun on one side and a moon on the other to fit in with the phrase of 'in the day the sun shine bright...twinkling stars come out at night' I used to place it where they could easily knock it with a hand or foot.
The 2 light up buttons are marked abc and 123 and also say phrases and play nursery rhymes. It was a while before my babies had the strength to press these 2 but they used to respond when I pressed them.
The cow says 'Moo' and 'Hug me' and has a really nice tone to it's voice. As long as it is turned on the cow also sings and speaks without buttons being pressed. This can be annoying when you've forgotten to turn it off and baby has gone to sleep!

Turning it off
The on/off switch is on the cow's blue printed t-shirt, it is under a red heart so easy to find but you can't tell whether it's on or off without activating one of the features.

Batteries
It takes 2 x AAA and these have only needed changing once in 15 months which I think is great considering how much it's been on during this time. The battery compartment is accessed via a velcro strip on the back of the toy. It requires a screwdriver to open it so there is no risk to baby.

Price and Availability
As I said earlier it was received as a gift but looking online it is currently available from Amazon £8.29 with free delivery. I would have happily have paid this for the toy as we've had lots of use from it.

Would I recommend?
Yes, this is a great first toy that has been very popular in our house.

Summary: A perfect first electronic toy for baby
