Vtech Musical Tambourine
Advantages: Introduces numbers and colours, flashing lights, catchy tunes
My youngest daughter was given three different Vtech musical instrument toys for her first Christmas when she was 3 months old. She got this one, a trumpet and an accordion which meant three noisy toys for mammy to contend with!
The tambourine in this group costs about £10 usually however if you want one of these anytime soon Early Learning centre had them reduced to £7 when I was in their store at the beginning of the week.
The tambourine is mainly bright orange with a gap at the bottom for your baby to hold it and a bright yellow chick character next to the handle bit and a bright yellow star in the centre of it. There are three lights across the top in blue, green and red and stating 1, 2 and 3 and then above the lights are the musical pieces of the tambourine.
This toy is good in my opinion as it has a motion sensor so even if your baby can't push the buttons just shaking it about they are rewarded with flashing lights and numerous tunes. When you push the star button in the middle it will play tunes to your baby and the button is quite easy to activate even for little hands and we found our daughter was able to press the buttons and get them to work at about 5 months old.
The three 1, 2, 3 buttons flash along whenever the toy makes a noise and our daughter was fascinated by the lights when we waved it in front of her. As she got a little older and began sitting up with the toy she liked to bash the tambourine until she hit the star and then she would wiggle around on her bum and dance to the music.
The toy introduces your baby to the usual numbers and colours and plays the usual style catchy tunes. The on off switch is a slider on the front of the toy which my daughter still can't switch herself and there are two different volume levels to the toy always great in my opinion. Our daughter is nearly 2 years now and this has moved to my parents house as she doesn't play with it much anymore but we still haven't had to change the batteries in the toy even after this amount of time. I would recommend this toy although a 3 month old shaking it about can end in a few bashes to the head.
