I'm a great fan of VTech toys, and bought this earlier in the year for my son's birthday. It has quite a few different activities and is suitable for ages 2-6. It's battery operated and teaches phonics, simple maths (addition and subtraction), and has a "science bus" where you have to place things in the correct order. One example is frogspawn, tadpole and frog. Lights flash and the child gets a round of applause if he/she gets it right.
