From when my girls were tiny babies I started to read them nursery rhymes from a big book that they were given. When they'd progressed from falling asleep as I read to starting to take an interest in the pictures I found I needed a book that wasn't paper. This is where the Vtech Nursery Rhymes Book is great, my sister bought it for my girls just before they were a year old although it is suitable from 6 months. What do you get? This book is made up of 4 chunky plastic pages each about 5mm thick with the middle 2 pages having tabs to help little ones to open the pages. Both mine were able to open the book and turn the pages at nearly a year old which made it a good toy that they could entertain themselves with. The plastic pages are really easy to clean and unlike nearly every other book they owned at this age this one has no damage. As you would expect from Vtech this is an electronic toy and as the pages are turned the book sings the first 2 lines of the nursery rhyme. All the words along with lovely illustrations are on each page so you can finish off singing the nursery rhyme. I do think this would work better if the book sang the whole nursery rhyme, this book is aimed at babies who can't talk so they aren't going to be finishing the rhymes off themselves. The book includes 6 nursery rhymes including favourites such as Humpty Dumpty and the Wheels on the Bus. When a double page is open a red or green arrow light on the spine of the book lights up to indicate which page should be looked at. The downside for me of this book is how loud it is, great for when baby is playing with it but not so good when they are asleep and you accidentally stand on it! It's also very hard to stop it once it has started singing and I've spent many an occasion trying to muffle the speaker on the bottom of the book. Price and Availability This toy is widely available and is currently (December 2012) £9.47 at Argos and Amazon, this includes the 2 x AAA batteries required. Would I recommend? Yes, my girls played with this book a lot when they were babies and it still holds their interest now when it gets found in the toy box. It's a good quality toy that engages your little one.
One boring Saturday morning we decided to go to a bootsale, it was pouring with rain and I was glad of it being an indoor bootsale! Because of the rain it was pretty quiet in the bootsale, lot's of sellers but not much buyers. We were walking up and down the lanes and my son spotted this VTech Nursery Rhymes Book, he has the one shown in the picture above but there are others available. He asked if he could have it and the seller eager to make a sale said 25p! Well I wasn't going to complain so he picked a few more bits and pieces and I paid her the grand total of £2.50 for a bag full of toys. Getting home I emptied the bag of toys onto the floor and proceeded to wipe them all over with a spritz of dettol and a cloth. This book looked new and flipping the pages over I noticed there were six different nursery rhymes in the book, the little tabs make it easy for little hands to flip the pages over and the arrow buttons on the side light up to encourage the child to interact. For some reason however the nursery rhymes are only half read? And the womans voice is... shall we say irritating! The plinky music is fab for little ones though and they sit and bop along! I think they usually retail at around £10 but I know they are in Argos' 2 for £15 range so buying this and something else works out better value. I like the simplicity of the book, the tabs on the 'pages' make it great and my son really loved this. It is sat in the toy box at the moment ready for my new son to use, although the batteries do need replacing. It takes 2 AAA batteries. It is suitable for ages 3 months +.
My 10 month old son now has a couple of these types of musical books to play with after I bought them a few months back thinking they looked quite attractive to play with and I thought they would keep my little boy amused. The book is made from hard plastic - but not so hard that it could cause injury if dropped on your child. There are 6 pages in the book which do have very nice, colourful illustrations as well as lyrics to go with the Nursery rhymes. As the book is made from shiny plastic, the pages are easy to wipe-clean to. The Nursery Rhymes featured in this book are quite popular ones including "Ring-a-Ring-a-Rosies", "Hey Diddle Diddle", "London Bridge" and "Humpty Dumpty". On the middle of each page there are arrow buttons that can be pressed and they will light up and a lady will sing a few lines of the nursery rhyme. But since it is only a few lines that are actually sang rather than the full song, this doesn't hold my sons attention for very long. I was really hoping for the book to be a lot more musical that it actually is. I was equally hoping that the book would have many lighting up features as that's what my little boy loves, but the only thing that lights up in the book are the 2 arrows in the centre. This book really does offer very little to do and my son has taken no interest in it even when I try and sit down with him and show him the pages. I thought this book we be good for when he gets a bit older too as he could sing a long to the Nursery rhymes, but with the book only playing a few lines, I can't see this happening. I paid £9.99 for this book from Argos and I really don't think it's worth it, other than having a few nice pictures to look at it doesn't offer any entertainment or education value for my little boy. The book is reccomended for babies aged 6 months + but I would say myself that your little one would have to be at least 9-12 months to pay any attention to this at all. Sadly I wouldn't reccomend this toy as the toy market is such a big one and you can get a lot better for your money than this. It also require 2 x AAA batteries to play which is just another expense for such a boring toy.
The Vtech nursery rhymes book is a great (if noisy) source of entertainment for babies and toddlers and also a great way to introduce them to books- as they get feedback from it straight away. We were given ours when my daughter was about 8 months old and have used it in the car when she is getting fed up on a long journey. The downside is that then she makes us fed up because the book is very loud. As you might expect, their is a different nursery rhyme on each page and this starts to play automatically every time that the page is opened. If you turn the page before the rhyme has finished, the book will start to sing what ever is on the new page. There is also an arrow button which can be pressed to play the same song again. However, this feature has not had much use as what my daughter likes to do is turn the pages back and forth so that it keeps starting a new rhyme before the old one has finished. Although this can be very irritating for adults it has entertained my daughter no end, and I also think that it has some educational benefits as it is demonstrating to young children how each page in a book is related to particular words. As with the vast majority of V tech toys, this one seems to be well made and durable. It has been repeatedly dropped onto the floor in the car and seems no worse for wear- and it has had no effect on the tunes at all. The book itself is made of plastic and has colourful illustrations on every page.
This book drove us mad!!!!!!!!! The book is a very clever design that is amazingly interactive for children but it really did drive us mad and there is no way I'm putting batteries in it when i pass it on to our youngest daughter! With each turn of the page the book knows what page you are on and starts to sing the relevant nursery rhyme. there is an arrow children can press to choose for it to play again or for it to play the one on the next page. Even if you turn the page half way through he song the book knows it and swaps to the new nursery rhyme you are now turned to. But it makes a kind of magical 'ding' noise with every turn too and the more times you turn it the more it make s the noise. It is however, a very sturdy toy that lasted a good 2 years of being played with and is still un damaged. We used rechargeable batteries in it and they lasted very well even though it makes the noises a lot. If you hate noisy electronic toys this one will not be for you!
I brought this book for my son as he loved nursery rhymes and music when he was about 7 months, the book is very sturdy with lovely illustrations. As you would expect it has a different nursery rhyme on each page that plays automatically when the page is opened, it plays the song with singing and then repeats just the music, I guess so your little one can sing along. It also plays a sound effect for each nursery rhyme, for example for ring a roses it plays a sneeze sound effect before it plays the tune. I found that this product was great for keeping son occupied whilst he was having his nappy changed because it can be stood up as it is so sturdy and my son could look at the book whilst listening to the rhymes, you just need to turn the pages too keep it entertaining, this book worked at keeping my son still for ages, for that it was well worth the £7.99 I paid for it!
Vtech is a very well known for its quality baby, toddler and children's toys. This was another great buy from my local toy shop. I purchased the vetch nursery rhyme book for my daughter when she was around 10 months old. It's a very well made toy that there's no chance of breaking. Also its wipe able so if your child is sick or decides to use it as a colouring book it can easily clean it. There are 4 pages to this plastic book. Which include 6 well known nursery rhymes. These included, hey diddle diddle, humpty dumpty, London bridge, twinkle twinkle little star, the wheels on the bus and ring-a-ring o' roses. The images are very colourfdul and will apeal to all aged children. The book also teaches children about opening and closing the book. There are also two light on the front. The batteries are located in the spine of the book and the product requires 2 x AAA batteries. This book is a great way to start teaching your children their favourite nursery rhymes from a very young age. I purchased this from Mothercare and it was priced at £9.99 but got it re3duced with 20% off. That made the product only £7.99. Mothercare regularly have 20% off selected branded toys. Overall my daughter has enjoyed playing with this nursery rhyme book. Yet we are still to learn the nursery rhymes. An excellent investment and a very much loved toy.
I got this book for my son when he was just over 6 months I wanted to expose him to words and rhymes from a very early age. By the time he was about 13 months he was able to recognise the music and say a few words of each rhymes. When he was younger he liked to look at the bright coloured plastic pages. He would throw it around a fair bit (as kids do) but its still in perfect condition. Around this time my son was also teething so he would bite on the tab of the book. The tabs also allowed him to easily turn the pages. The book consists of 6 Rhymes Hey Diddle Diddle, Humpty Dumpty, London Bridge Is Falling Down, Ring-A-Ring o' Roses, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, The Wheels on the Bus. It takes two AA batteries and they last a very long time. He is now over three years old and he still enjoys playing with it and singing along. A good buy.
My youngest son likes anything that makes a noise. When searching for something to buy him last Christmas I found the Vtech Nursery Rhyme book on www.amazon.co.uk. I had seen the book elsewhere but it had been about £15 so I had decided against it because it seemed expensive. The book is made of hard plastic and has pictures stuck to each page. You turn the pages like a normal book and each page shows a different nursery rhyme. There are six nursery rhymes in total including Ring a ring of roses, Humpty Dumpty, Hey Diddle Diddle, London Bridge, Twinkle, Twinkle and The wheels on the bus. On the spine of the book are two arrow shaped buttons, one red and one green. When the book is open the arrow pointing to the song being sung flashes in time to the tune. The pictures are very bright and colourful and the plastic of each page is also a different colour. There are two big tabs on the middle pages to help little hands turn the pages more easily. When my son opened this present on Christmas morning he was very pleased with it. He is a November baby and had just turned one. He found the book easy to hold and the pages easy to turn. He liked to press the buttons to make the tunes change and did this quite a lot at first. At that age he didn't really listen to what was being sung or try and join in but he just enjoyed the sounds and the music. We have had the book almost a year now and it is still in excellent condition. None of the pictures have peeled off and everything is still in one piece. We have had to replace the batteries but this is to be expected. The book takes two AAA batteries and these are held in a secure compartment in the spine of the book. To open the battery compartment you do need a screwdriver to open the top. The speaker is on the bottom of the spine. I think I paid about £8 for this book which although I felt was a little expensive it is the cheapest that I have seen this type of book. I don't think I would have paid any more for it. The book is well made and strong as you would expect from Vtech and there are no obvious hazards to a young child. I think the recommended age range for this toy is from 12 months but I think a baby from 6 months would enjoy this book. My son is now almost two and he still likes this book very much even if I find it a little irritating after a while. I would recommend this book to anyone with young children as it is well made and long lasting. I would suggest shopping around to get a good price though.
This book is wonderful. My daughter received hers as part of a pack which contained 3 different Vtech toys (which worked out more reasonable than buying them seperately) and she played with this for 2 and a half years (which in my mind even paying £10 makes it well spent) the nursery rhymes are childhood favourites and the illustrations are very child friendly with colourful characters and enough background to make it interesting. It is very easy for little hands to hold and turn the pages and the cheerful tunes definately make baby smile. I have seen different variations of the same product with different rhymes in, so if you purchase one you may find that the rhymes are different (worth considering if the child has seen one elsewhere and expects it to be the same) My daughter had hours of fun turning pages and eventually singing along to the rhymes and it gives an early understanding of how books work without investing in a whole library, unfortunately we eventually lost this, but i now have daughter number 2 and will be spending £10 to get another!
Well, I was looking for a different product to review as it happens. But seeing this I just had to pen a little review about it as it used to be one of my grandson's favourite toys. It currently costs £9.99 on Amazon which I think is a little bit on the expensive side. I'm sure we didn't pay that price when we bought ours a couple of years ago! It's the same price at Argos and Tesco, I just checked. Still, maybe one to look out for secondhand or buy with the old dooyoo vouchers then? What our grandson really loved about this book was that it was something he was able to operate all on his own I think. Everytime he turned the chunky plastic page, there was a twinkly sound and then the arrows flashed and the book sang him a nursery rhyme. His favourite was the wheels on the bus but the problem with that one was that it didn't have quite the same tune as the standard version. So poor grandad was trying to sing along with it and could never quite get it right. On each nursery rhyme page there's a full colour picture with a verse printed on it so an adult can sing along with one of the six nursery rhymes. I think it's good to include the text so that young children can get accustomed to what a book should look like anyway, even if they don't understand it. Like I said, I think the current price is a bit much and one of the tunes has more notes in it than it does traditionally have, but this was one of the grandson's firm favourites for a long time. I don't think you can go wrong with this if you get it a slightly lower price for a kid aged about six months through to two years or so. Especially as the plastic design means it's pretty hard to wreck no matter how hard a little one might be on it.
I bought the VTech nursery rhymes book for my son for Christmas. I purchased it from Amazon and it cost me £9. The book itself is hard plastic and is a talking nursery rhyme book; it is suitable for children from ages 3-24 months. You turn the page of the book and a voice speaks the first part of the nursery rhyme and for the rest of the rhyme the tune continues to play so that you can sing along to it with your little one. There are six nursery rhymes in total, starting with Hey diddle diddle, humpty dumpty, London bridge, Ring a ring o roses, twinkle twinkle and the wheels on the bus. The pages all have plastic tabs on the edge of the so that it makes it easier for your baby to turn the pages, the pages can also be easily wiped clean. The book is quite small so makes it handy if you want to take it out with you. There are two arrows on the centre of the book that light up and flash when the nursery rhyme is being played. Each page has lovely, bright pictures on it, so that it attracts your baby's attention and it has the words of the nursery rhyme on it, so that you don't have to remember the words each time! I have to admit that I find the voice that says the nursery rhymes super annoying!! It is a male voice but is very loud and for some reason really grates on me!! However my son loves the book and continues to play it over and over again, so unfortunately it is something that I have to endure, until the batteries run out that is!!! My son loves to sit and turn the pages of the book, as previously mentioned, the pages are made of hard plastic, so my son can turn them over by himself without me having to help him, so he enjoys being independent when playing with this!
About the item This book is made of hard, sturdy plastic which is easy to clean by wiping over, and does not get ruined by little mouths chewing at the corners! It is not too big for infants to use, and pick up, and has six pages of nursery rhymes. These are as follows: * Hey diddle diddle * Humpty Dumpty * London Bridge * Ring-a-Ring o' Roses * Twinkle twinkle little star * The wheels on the bus It also has two large tabs in different colours to aid the child in turning the pages. When each page is turned, a nursery rhyme starts up with a little noise relating to the song and then a British voice sings the first line of the song and then the music starts and takes over the rest of the song. I personally thought that it would have been good for the book to sing the whole of the rhyme, but it depends on preference, for example the parent may like to sing the rest of the rhyme to the child. The book has two arrows on its spine, to activate the left- or right-hand song. One other thing to make a note of is that you have to press it three times to get it to play the music, which can be annoying. My thoughts These points aside, it is a great little book, which both my children love. I bought it when my son was 3 months old and he seemed to love it from that age up until he was about 2 years old. Both my children picked up new words from it, and loved it when I did the actions to the songs, especially twinkle twinkle little star and wheels on the bus. They even did little actions of their own in an attempt to copy me! You can take it anywhere, and the x3 AAA batteries seem to last for a long time.
I have always trusted V-Tech as a brand, as i always find their toy's good value for money, educational yet at the same time fun and safe for use with my daughters. I purchased the V-Tech Nursery rhymes book in June for my daughters first birthday because at the time she was becoming a lot more vocal and started to express interest in words, pictures and colours. When ever she heard a nursery rhyme or song being played or me singing to her, her face lit up so i knew by purchasing this book, that it would be a great option. ==The product== The V-Tech nursery book, is a large hard plastic book, that stands about 10 inches tall and 7 inches long. The front is covered by a picture of different nursery rhyme characters. The book is dominated by the four main primary colours- red, green, blue and yellow, which is a great choice as there very bright and bold and catch the attention of younger children more easier. Altogether it has 6 pages, each with a different nursery rhyme on, they consist of.... * Hey diddle diddle * Humpty Dumpty * London Bridge is falling down * Ring a ring o roses * Twinkle Twinkle little star * The wheels on the bus Each rhyme is clearly written, and is illustrated with a picture relevant to the rhyme. The songs are all classic rhymes, and when each page is opened a clear to understand recorded voice automatically starts singing. As well as having a voice singing the songs it also says different phases and when you shut the book it says 'The end'. This then also automatically turns off to preserve the battery life The pages are easy to open, and the spine of the book has lights that flash when a page is opened and a song is sung. The book is also quite compact so can easily be taken any places- great for car journey's, holidays etc. ==My verdict== My daughter absolutely loves this book, and it has made her become very familiar with different rhymes, she can recognize each song now and can easily use the book herself. The pages and cover are easy to clean because they are a hard plastic. It has certainly helped with the development of her speech and recognition of colours and sounds also. I would defiantly recommend this product to any person wanting to get a younger child a great educational yet fun present for Christmas. It takes 2x AAA Batteries, and they do last quite a long time, as since buying it in June i have yet to replace the ones in there. You can this product from any major retailer for around £10.00 which i think is great value for money. It is suitable for children from the age of 3 months+.
All my children loves books and for my youngest sons second christmas although he was only just over a year old and had an interest in books so i asked my mum to get this for him for a present. When he opened it he loved it straight away. It's a plastic book that has lights and sings nursery rhymes whilst you go through the pages. These are all well know ryhmes and they are Hey Diddle Diddle, Humpty Dumpty, London Bridge is Falling Down, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Ring a Ring of Roses and the Wheels on The Bus. My sons favourite was Twinkle Twinkle little star. . This was great as i knew pages wouldn't get ruined and chewed and it was really sturdy. The only thing that he could not grasp at first was the button pushing to start the singing but it didn't take him long to realise this. I used to sit down with him for ages going through each page singing all the rhymes and he would love it trying to sing in his own little way. This book is still widely available, my mum got it from Asda for £10 and it's around the same price where ever you go.
