VTech Playtime Bus
Advantages: its educational, fun and can just be used as a bus
Disadvantages: none so far
I bought this toy secondhand in a charity shop for just £2.00! I probably sound well skanky as alot of the toys I buy are either from Bootsales or Charity shops just to save myself hell of alot of money as the price of the majority of toys these days are ridiculous. Whilst my 13month old twin boys don't know things are not brand new I will continue to do this that way they still get everything they want and even don't want for hell of alot cheaper lol! If you were to buy it in a shop though the retail price is roughly £15. It is reccomend for children aged 12months plus, which I think is just right as it is a good way to introduce numbers, alphabet and shapes and colours, even though they don't actually understand them at this age. This bus also requires 2 x AA batteries.
Basically this toy is just a long red bus, for fun and educational purposes. It has alphabet and number buttons on the 1 side of it. I have said in many of my reviews I love educational toys, it makes learning fun for children so encourages them to want to learn. There are pictures around the bus of 'passengers' just to make the bus look more realistic I suppose. On the same side of the bus that the alphabet and number letters are on there are four buttons, these buttons are to change the modes your child can play in, these are music, quiz, letters and phonics. When the different mode buttons are pressed, different sounds are made when the alphabet and numbers are pressed. The bus also teaches shapes, as there are four larger buttons on top of the bus in different shapes and colours also, blue triangle, orange star, green circle and yellow square. Also on the top of the bus is the on off switch, perfect! (lol) Sounds quite boring so far doesn't it, but it actually provides alot for a young child to do to keep their little minds buzzing with knowledge and learning more as they play.
The bus itself is very appealing to both adults and children as it's so bright, the red is very in your face bright and the other colours on it are easily spotted. When in number mode, and the numbers are pressed the talking bus will say the number which has been pressed. When in letter mode, the same happens but obviously the letter being said and then what that letter stands for for example, A is for Apple, Z is for Zebra.. The music button just plays funky tunes some which I am familiar with such as Twinkle Twinkle Litter Star other tunes I don't recognise. These tunes are played when a button on the side of the bus is pressed, this has helped me introduce dance to my boys, they love their music so when the bus plays music they do have a little jig together. The quiz button is where things get interesting too. The bus will ask the child to find a shape, ask them for help to find a letter or number or ask them what letter a certain word begins with etc, this is where the bus becomes more interactive and fun I think. When the shapes at the top are pressed the bus calls out the name of the shapes and the colour of it. When in the phonics mode, instead of the letters being called out when pressed it's the 'sound' of the letter, such as AH would be A and BUH would be B, this is what tends to be taught to children in infant schools first before the actual alphabet itself.
I definitely reccomend this toy, as not only has it been used to try introduce my boys to numbers and letters they both use it as just a normal bus, as they love their cars and anything which has wheels on at the moment.
Summary: a sturdy bus, good way to introduce numbers, letters and shapes to young children
