Disadvantages: Doesn't roll very well
We have a pretty big family and on her first Christmas my youngest daughter was pretty spoilt, this toy was bought for her by her Great Auntie and it usually costs around the £10 mark as far as I have seen it.
The toy is by Vtech which is a leading name in young childrens toys and both myself and my children tend to like their toys as they are in the main educational and fun at the same time.
The toy came packaged in a bright blue box and was open fronted as the majority of Vtech toys are so that you can have a try before you buy. The toy was pretty easy to get out of the box and then of course being cardboard the packaging is recyclable. The box states that this toy is suitable for babies aged 3 months and up over although I would say Emily was a little older than that before she started playing with it.
The toy is a hard plastic ball, the ball has three bright yellow sections each with an animals, a cat, a rabbit and a bird on it in a circular brightly coloured shape. Between the yellow sections there are some soft feel sections in red, blue and green each of which has loads of little drawings on of numbers, shapes and musical notes. Finally there is a plastic blue circle on the top of the ball with a star inside where the doggy appears from hence the name surprise ball. You can also get this toy coloured pink but we have the multicoloured one.
To turn the toy on there is a switch on the blue circle at the top of the toy and if you don't play with the ball for a while it will turn to battery saving mode which is good. The animals on the side of the ball are buttons and when they are pressed the noise of the animal is played and then it is followed by a little tune
The star on top of the toy will light up when the puppy is going to appear so as an adult or older child you know when it will happen however as a baby they have no idea when it's going to happen and my daughter found it funny when the puppy jumped up and said peek a boo.
I think this toy is quite cute, for all it is a ball it doesn't really roll very well as it is not actually a full sphere shape. The battery life of the toy is great and we never had to replace the batteries and I would say my daughter played with it for about 8 months before she began to outgrow it. My daughter found the toy funny and I used to love hearing her giggle to the puppy appearing. The toy is durable being made of hard plastic and it is a great value toy.
Summary: Daughter found it very funny
